Can you pay for them online at the same time, or do they still have to be validated at the border?

bajaguy - 8-30-2016 at 07:32 AM

Still have to be validated/stamped

So? Not a new thing...

David K - 8-30-2016 at 08:09 AM

Nope. If you have to stop at the border INM office to get it validated (stamped) or paid for, then there's no advantage to getting one before your trip. Just get the thing there, with your passport, allow about 10 minutes max (if no line).

chuckie - 8-30-2016 at 08:14 AM

Easier to go to Canada...

sancho - 8-30-2016 at 11:03 AM

Can someone explain the slightest benefit in the online fmm?
Does it cost the same as stopping at the border for 1?
Still have to get it validated at the border. I've never spent
any time, other than filling out the form in the Imm office,
getting 1 at the border. I know the mythical bus load of
tourists in the Imm office and the lengthy line claim.
Worthless

chuckie - 8-30-2016 at 11:50 AM

The one time I ran into a crowd, I had a prepaid FMM (Vagabundos) and was allowed to go to the head of the line....Not a big deal, if I had had to stand in line I would have gone and had lunch and come back later....Es Mexico, eh....

It ain't a myth. I stopped to get my 6 monther at San Ysidro and there were TWO busloads of people ahead of me. Really. Loooong line. So it happens occasionally.

I skipped it and got one the next time I crossed.

can someone explain the slightest benefit of NOT getting the online fmm? wear and tear on the printer? cost of printer ink? remember travelers, the quicker you can get through the border the quicker you can get yourselves one of those magic tacos from el trailero!
I don't see it as anything to get angry about?

David K - 8-30-2016 at 12:42 PM

Because you have to stop at the border ANYWAY, to pay for or validate the thing (if it was pre-paid). So, line or no line... you must park and get in front of the INM officer. Maybe it saves a couple minutes by having the form already filled out? The officer still needs to examine your passport and the form before he validates it.

No need for anger, either way!

bajaguy - 8-30-2016 at 12:56 PM

It's the journey, not the destination. No advantage since you have to stop either way.......let's you interact with INM. Last time I stopped there 2 very attractive (female) helpful INM officers were on duty and assisted my friend - who was staring and drooling at the time -, fill out his FMM

Hey, Udo
There are several links sending you to Immigration but I couldn't locate amongst them the FMM entry visa permit to print out. I do read Spanish well, but perhaps am overlooking something. Could you help me please?

now I understand its a little different for you, not wanting your PC tied up for any length of time  but... if you had a stack of FMM forms at your disposal, you wouldn't have one filled out ready to hand to the agent??come on.....

bajabuddha - 8-30-2016 at 03:41 PM

It's the Amerikan way, that's why! GO - GO - GO !!! Save 10 minutes of your precious time so you can speed down (pass everyone, gotta be first!) and get through FASTER.

Personally, since the first time I wintered 6 months in Baja I've been on Mexican Standard Time ever since, and lovin' it. That was in '95-6, came back and lived next to the Navajo Nation for 8 years, then moved to Baja, New Mexico where you just can't go to a store and BUY something, you at least have to mention the weather....

Martinis @ 17:00 hrs......... SLOW THE PACE.

del mar - 8-30-2016 at 03:51 PM

..I must be reading this wrong, I thought it was MEXICO that was offering this to gringo's?

mtgoat666 - 8-30-2016 at 03:59 PM

Why spend time arguing about how to complete and pay for your FMM?
There are so many more important things to argue about - for example, the weather.

Too true, but the fact is if they'd offer a pre-pay and cert. service at the same time so you didn't need the 'rubber stamp' and pay the $26 at a bank or kiosk now THAT would be a wonderful thing, don't you agree?

chuckie - 8-30-2016 at 04:26 PM

Geezo! Are all gringos so important that they cant stand in line for a bit?

bajaguy - 8-30-2016 at 04:48 PM

Then they (Mexico) couldn't verify your passport

Bob and Susan - 8-30-2016 at 04:49 PM

if you had 20 people in your group...it would go faster...just pay and go

you'd help everyone else in line

oh yea I think I paid $21usa for my daughter in july not $26

bajaguy - 8-30-2016 at 04:51 PM

At least they are getting the FMM.........

They certainly could at the gate when you present your pre-paid, stamped FMM when you drive up, que no? Then Hasta La Woogie, Gringo! Jave A Nice Day!

Never have had a problem at the new entry at San Ysidro. Probably took 15 minutes at most.

bajaguy - 8-30-2016 at 04:57 PM

That would be taking somebody's ricebowl..INM wouldn't give up their authority to the bank or Aduana......the two agencies don't cooperate as it is now

Maybe I'm the unluckiest guy when getting FMMs at San Ysidro but, in addition to the line of two busloads of people I once ran into, I also couldn't get one once because the computers weren't working.

I asked when I should come back and was told maybe two hours, maybe tomorrow.

I believe getting one online would have alleviated the problem in both cases.

However the problems weren't large because both times I proceeded into Mexico anyway. ;)

Did have a few occasions when we got stuck at the border because of the bus traffic during whale season. Same happens when you were thinking about staying in Catavina. Just seems to me that the Mexican IMM could create another office to deal with the bus traffic.

I agree...building another facility would be sooo much easier than offering online FMM's :wow:
