Has anyone explored the area west from Vizcaino....with an eye to history and natural history ?
Appreciate any insights or links related to the area......not much luck with the search function on Nomads.

What area in particular are you asking about...I live west of Vizcaino between Bahia Tortugas & Pta. Abreojos...and there is lots of natural
history in these parts...large arroyos of fossils, stories of giants, many old Indian camps with arrowheads etc, obsidian workshop areas.

In Oct. of 2002 we spent a week + exploring the Vizcaino peninsula on a big loop trip. It was great, and lots to see, and we were camping. Left Mex.
1 at Rancho Fisher S. of Vizcaino, heading SW to Punta Abreojos, and then north along the coast to Bahia Asuncion and San Roque, and then north inland
to San Jose de Castro and joining the road there from Vizcaino to Bahia Tortugas, on out to Bahia Tortugas and on to Punta Eugenia, out to Punta
Quebrado on a side road, and then back out to Vizcaino and on to BOLA. Our camps were on the beach just south of Punta Abreojos, in town on the
cliff at Bahia Asuncion, on the beach just south of Bahia Tortugas (on the bay), and then on the beach south of Punta Quebrado (2 nights each at the
beach camps except 1 night at Tortugas). We had intended to do a lot of fishing but we spent so much time exploring that we really did not get much
fishing in, except at Punta Quebrado just south of Punta Eugenia from the beach, but not much success. It's 'big country' so I would allow as much
time as possible. The 3 of us really enjoyed the loop, and would do it again.

Just the sort of intro to the area I was looking for to plan a visit next Jan-Feb ...
Had in mind a possible loop from the mission road West from Loretto toward the Pacific and then northward.,,,no details yet.
We have 4 WD , common sense and a wanderlust for the unknown.

that is a wonderful time of year to visit the area...the water is still about 70 degrees for swimming too...check your U2U too.

We had a thread here on the historic water hole, Ojo de Liebre (it is this little spring that Mexico renamed Scammon's Lagoon after).

That entire area is a part of an International Biosphere ---check out this, and you can google more and find out lots and lots of information about
the Biosphere. http://www2.inecc.gob.mx/publicaciones/libros/2/vizc.html
Also, the Mexican office for the Preserve in in Guerrero negro. Lots of information.

be sure to visit punta abreojos (very pretty beach) and of course, us in la bocana if you come this way!

I know, I know - Abre is famous for the moscas. A drive thru the town and you wont even notice them.
La Bocana has not the same issues so vengan! come on over!
