Newton - Loreto

tehag - 9-7-2016 at 05:13 PM

First pic is portrait of Newton Tuesday 9/6/2016 at about what would turn out to be peak intensity for Loreto (Maybe 3:30 PM)

Second: Poor timing, anchoring, luck.

Third and fourth: Arroyo San Telmo where it crosses Calle Madero on the way to Colonia Zaragosa at 5 PM Tues and 7 AM Wed.

Storm produced some water and a lot of trash but no serious damage that I've heard of. Couple of small area power outages of less than 24 hours. Internet out off and on, phones likewise.

Weather people say wind was 70mph steady with 90mph gusts and 6-12 inches of rain.

Thanks Tom.
Got a little hairy here in Nopolo, but came out with just a bunch of clean up to do.
Tough on our outside plants though.

We are getting the remnants in Az....love the rain!

What a difference a day makes in the arroyo! It is a good thing that Newton passed over Baja as quickly as it did.

So, what happens to that boat?

Insurance, gleaning, or rescue?

Boat

Refloated yesterday by a panga and 23 men. Not very far offshore, though. It is aground again at low tide this morning, but not nearly so badly.

That boat has been anchored off the public beach for several weeks. It appears to have been abondoned, sails not stowed, nothing on deck, ladder just hanging, dirty and not maintained. I think someone just anchored it there and left. Not a secure anchorage by any means. Would be nice to know what the story is.

Do you know if the men did this because it's the right thing to do, to clean up the beach (because that's the right thing to do), or some other reason?

Did the boat look like it had been damaged by Newton, or was the ostensible wear there prior?

Isnt a boat that runs aground with no owner considered salvage?

I couldn't quite make out the name and the ship's registry. There should be a way to trace that, you'd think.

Loreto Sailboat

Name is i Pear D from Los Angeles, and she is now back out where she started. Inadequate scope on the anchor line is the usual cause of such drag ins. The rescue involved a number of local men who may have been compensated, I don't know.
