? Skype

Russ - 10-16-2016 at 08:37 AM

I'm wondering if Skype uses a lot of band width. The internet usage on the computer doesn't seem to show it using a lot but some thing is going thru my time like fire. Any help?

WHich version of Windows? and do you have a smart phone?

We use it all the time on Exude and monitor the bandwidth usage. It doesn't use much unless you use the video option; then it uses a bunch.

Windows 10 has many apps including Skype that constantly check the internet and download content. Smartphones do the same thing.

What did you figure out, or did you not like the responses?

I have several folks using my excede and some like to Skype. I'll inform them no video Skyping. I don't know what operating system they're using but I'm a Mac user and don't Skype. bonanza bucko gave me what I was looking for. I liked all the responses and appreciate the time given to reply.

We have several users and I found out they thought their smart phones did not use anything. They were moving photos and streaming videos with their phones.

skype is not your problem...

people running videos and streaming is the problem

also apps running in the background
ipads are the worst "eaters" of data

you need this///
https://shop.gargoyle-router.com/

you can limit the use of others and yourself

it works...take my word

edit...oh yea...
windows10 updates are also a problem...
they are big
if your computer goes to sleep the update has to start again and you loose all the data you downloaded

to change automatic updates you need to change the registry in your computer otherwise it just goes

B&S, Thanks. I try to explain about getting off the internet if not in use and two of the people I allow on are very good. However it only takes one forgetful moment and if upgrades start it's history for the month. My iPad did it to me when I first got it. I think all Macs do it until you figure out the secret hand shake...
