Peso to the $

Howard - 11-16-2016 at 08:47 AM

Please, no political rants.

At the ATM in Lays market in Loreto yesterday, I netted 20.53 to the dollar after all fees. A very pleasant surprise as I thought I would get around 19.75.

How do you define "rant?"

Howard - 11-16-2016 at 09:10 AM

My definition of a rant is endless communication of information that has nothing to do with the original subject matter.

Peso at the moment: 20.2728

SlyOnce - 11-16-2016 at 10:06 AM

The cambios in TJ are not giving anything near to that rate. Commercial Mexicana and Wallmart are. So the best thing to do is buy our groceries in US dollars and get change in pesos. Make sure to use Pesos at all other places as exchange rates vary widely, for example Starbucks was only giving 18 to 1.

DENNIS - 11-16-2016 at 10:17 AM

Competitive Cambios work at a 2% margin. It's a business.

sancho - 11-16-2016 at 02:16 PM

A Casa de Cambio out of Ensenada lists 18.70 to the dll. A predominately
mainland site, fairly recent legit posts, not as in yrs. ago, was dicussing the exchange of dlls at Mex Banks. I was under the
impression that went away 6-8 yrs. ago, something
about showing one's passport which is recorded, and the
limit of some amount per month. Was this wishful thinking
or did I read something wrong
Today Thurs. 18.65

I think the dollar is quite strong right now so it's good if you have dollars because you can buy more pesos.

Dollar is very strong against the Pound, Euro, and Yen right now. Good time to do some international trips.

Peso set to depreciate against U.S. dollar

U.S. recession would be bad news for the peso

USD has been climbing steadily against almost every broadly traded currency for quite a while now. Peso has been doing better than most, including the CAD, EUR GBP and JPY for about 1 year. Tourists are beginning to prefer European destinations to Baja for pricing reasons as well as higher levels of safety. Portugal seems to be the preferred destination.

Does the loonie still exist? Didn’t Canada convert to the US dollar?

JDCanuck - 10-22-2022 at 08:19 AM

Yes MTGoat, Canada and it's currency still exist. You should try visiting sometime, you might actually find something out side of your home area you like. We are a pretty hospitable country.

RFClark - 10-22-2022 at 10:52 AM

Mexico has a long history of “The Christmas Surprise” in simple terms a large devaluation of the Peso around the end of the year. This could be what we see being discussed now.

But not if the recession is, in part, caused by high oil prices. High oil prices seem to support the value of the peso. Not surprising, really. Last I remember, oil is around 60% of Mexico's total GDP.

Actually, we ARE in a recession, despite the Biden administrations massaging of the traditional definition of a recession. Probably gonna get worse, since fuel has begun to increase again.
