Of course David will show us the secret way around it if it is installed.
Why? I have never driven around it. You may have me confused with others who have posted it? There are several roads that cross the state border but
only Hwy. 1 has the (sometimes open) checkpoint and bug spray.rts551 - 12-5-2016 at 01:16 PM
Must have been someone else that pointed out to everyone they could drive around the immigration checkpoint by going out to the airport. Does not
matter, I'll bet they block most known drive arounds if they do set up a checkpoint. Smile David.

Many people used to use the go around...both to save time and for ...umm...other reasons. It was a legal road to the airport and is the back way into
town...we often use it as a shortcut to get to the bank end of GN if coming from the north. Lots of Nomads referred to it...so what.willardguy - 12-5-2016 at 01:23 PM
could have been me.....we always drive along the defunct campground behind the la pinta out past the graveyard and into town, nothing to do with the
checkpoint, just the shortest way to town. (same route all the locals use) shari - 12-5-2016 at 01:51 PM
oh wow willardguy...I lived there a long time and didnt know about that secret route! the Airport road is easy and well maintained and it also goes
out to the beautiful dune area...much nicer way to get into GN.rts551 - 12-5-2016 at 01:54 PM
Could have been, Mark. There were numerous posts many years ago about the merits of not getting a tourist permit and bypassing the checkpoint. I
know you would never have done that. I will admit I did a couple of times for my son many years ago (how many years has it been since they
checked?).sancho - 12-5-2016 at 02:21 PM
A little astray, I worked at the San Onfre Nuke plant for yrs.
Was talking with this Superentindent guy, Baja came up for
some reason. He said he lived in GN for a few yrs., my reaction,
a bit negative I suppose, was predictable, a bit bleak isn't, 'What the heck were you doing in GN'? Said
he managed the Salt Works, and with a phrase that stuck with
me 'One can find beauty anywhere'shari - 12-5-2016 at 02:25 PM
Living as I did in GN, one certainly is steered to areas of beauty...where the locals go for fun n sun. There are several lovely places nearby to
spend a sunday afternoon. GN gets a bad rap by people who just pass through there and dont know it....so there.David K - 12-5-2016 at 02:29 PM

From 2011:
The sand dunes at the end of the access road.
The road from Hwy. 1 to the sand dunes.
The highway from the Eagle Monument to the dune access road measures 2.5 miles on Google. Now, if the odometer was set to 0 at the top end of the
traffic circle, 2.4 miles would be correct... this is what Jim Hunter published in 1977. There are other roads to the dunes, but this is right where
Jim Hunter said it would be, and where I drove in many years ago. Note the airport between the two points. The road Shari describes is quite visible
going around the airport to town.KurtG - 12-5-2016 at 03:13 PM

I agree, there are some very interesting places around GN. I always enjoy taking the road out to the old loading wharf especially during the time of
year when their are huge numbers of birds. We've been using GN as an overnight stop for more than 40 years and I have found the locals to be
exceptionally nice and friendly people.rts551 - 12-5-2016 at 03:38 PM
Unfortunately, Guerrero Negro is having a lot of problems right now. motoged - 12-5-2016 at 04:28 PM
