first trip down

terrybird - 2-7-2005 at 06:02 PM

We are not going far but we are really getting excited about our border crossing. We are taking our annual visit to kids in OC but some interesting articles and internet sites got us to thinking about BAJA as a place to retire. We are just coming down for a nite and two days staying in Rosarito or Ensenada. I realize to most of you this is NOT BAJA, but to a coupla frosty skinned white folks it's gonna be a heckuva an adventure. For somebody retiring on a beer budget (a term often heard here) there are some compelling arguments for a look see anyway. Some links we found informative for our trip include that CBS Morning Show blurb (some loved it some hated it I am sure). http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/05/19/eveningnews/main61...
I listen to every BAJA TALK RADIO show and some archives, while surfing the variety of BAJA commercial sites. http://www.rosarito.org/area/tips.htm

The ONE site I go to everyday is this one. I have picked up useful links and information here but I know you guys are part of a much bigger quest than our initial trip. My guess is the first test to posting here was getting the crazy password to fly, the second one finally flew.I am proud to be a new member here and will contribute what I can. In closing I must say yesterdays postings had to be some of the best from Eli to liizard lips.:D

Just wishing you a good first time

Terrybird, Beer budgets work fine in B.C., Although I have always found that the first time around is much more costly, the more time you spend in one place, the more ways you find to cut down to a budget that is comfortable but will permit you to realize your dream.

T.J., Rosarita Beach, Cabo San Lucas or Santiago, El Cardonal, San Bartolo, Aguas Calientes, and Los Baracas, it is all a legitamente experinse, all of it is Baja California, just different aspects, all worth knowing I expect.

Your note sounds from the heart of good people, I hope you meet many more of the same on many, many more adventures South of the boarder.

Mando Saludos and wish you the best of luck on your first.

border unrest

The news reports I just read are more than a little troubling. The report in the San Fran paper said danger was escalating? I am glad we still haven't made Hotel res yet, however we are leaving in 4 days. Snowing here this evening just enough to make shoveling a must but too little for snowblower. :)
Terry

p.s. Anybody down there remember snowblowers?

JUST ENJOY

I noticed that you have not made hotel reservations yet. This can be important because some hotels cater more to the San Diego State young kids who party all nite or are right next to some loud bars while others are more relaxed and quite . If you have not made any reservations yet let us know and maybe we can point you in the right direction.
