Wouldn't be surprised with this rain

Hook - 12-24-2016 at 12:55 PM

Jeez, kind of a cold rain for Ensenada. 51 degrees and raining, right on the coast at mid day?

What's the snow level in SoCal from this storm?

bajaguy - 12-24-2016 at 01:34 PM

Currently 53 degrees, wind (gusts up to 14mph) and 0.95" of rain since midnight here in Ensenada

I have been wanting to hear some rain related news. Met some surfers who got soaked up in mid peninsula over a week ago! Peskys had been warm and balmy at night the last week but last night got cold; low sixties. Cloudy this morning and the ocean shows signs of wind and it's blowin now. No rain down here but it's feelin like winter/Christmas. Ho, Ho, Ho. Tomas

1.25 inches wed night in Punta Abreojos. More possible this afternoon. Forecast is for 50 tonight. Poor Santa.

Not SoCal, but in Northern Arizona, Flagstaff is expecting 12" of snow tonight, 20" above 8,000'. Overnight, snow level is lowering to around 3,000'. Right now in Sedona, Cottonwood, and Camp Verde it's 41 with heavy rain - a white Christmas tonight, eh?

AKgringo - 12-24-2016 at 02:46 PM

I drove north from Vizcaino through the dirt road to BOLA on the 23rd, and it drizzled all the way. At that point, it was just enough to settle the dust, and the road had been recently graded (except from Dagget's Camp to town).

It rained quite a bit more while I was driving through the new construction on Mex 5, and it was already becoming a mess! Not muddy, but lots of standing water on the flats, and the finer material was starting to wash on the grades.

It rained hard that night where I stopped between Gonzaga and Puertecitos. Lots of rocks on the road on the new section of pavement!

It rained off and on all the way through San diego!

My neighbor went North yesterday and he said it was not bad on 5.

woody with a view - 12-24-2016 at 04:55 PM

snow forecast east of SD calls for Julian and maybe lower.

Gulliver - 12-24-2016 at 08:49 PM

As of 5 p.m. on xmas eve the road is open from El Rosario to Catavina as per Ralph AT Rancho San Inez.
(From a ham radio contact with him)

BigBearRider - 12-24-2016 at 09:08 PM

We got about 18 inches of snow in Big Bear in the last 24 hours.

We're at 7,000 feet. I used the snow blower to clear the drive way. Thank goodness for the electric start. I also finally got around to outting chains on the blower. Made a big difference.

I'm planning in riding down to Ensenada tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully, it won't be wet. Then up to Tecate, and over to SF and down to Gonzaga and then to Mulege.

I flew over Laguna Hanson last weekend. It was dry then. Maybe there's water in there now.

BajaBlanca - 12-25-2016 at 10:24 AM

All I can say is I just saw a photo of one of Shari's guests SHIRTLESS in Asuncion and it is downright cold here in San Diego. Brrrrrr

We will be driving south on Tuesday so please post updates on the road conditions!

Arturo1 - 12-26-2016 at 12:28 AM

Yes please post more Road updates, driving down to Chivato Monday morning.
Also , any updates on the road into Chivato will be helpful as well.
Thanks.

Gulliver - 12-26-2016 at 12:12 PM

As to Rt. 1, the trucks are still rolling through Mulege both ways so things can't be balled up too bad.

BajaBlanca - 12-26-2016 at 07:39 PM

thanks! for the first time ever in 10 years, we are going to cross at Mexicali....and I guess we shall meet Coco for the first time.

Gulliver - 12-26-2016 at 07:47 PM

I have mixed emotions about Coco having been stopping in there for an embarrassing number of years.

One one hand he has a good heart and has been a savior to many, many travelers. On the other hand all the damned women's underwear hanging up is just gross. Sometimes he could use a hosing off too.

liknbaja127 - 12-26-2016 at 08:11 PM

We will be in San Felipe on Thursday, Is saying a chance of rain on
Friday? and only around the hi 50"s ! any body have more info?

Gulliver - 12-26-2016 at 08:15 PM

The reports from the ham net have been of cold North winds all the way down to Mulege. Down to 49 at Catavina at 5. p.m.

Probably not a good week for getting your tan in order.

Thanks Gulliver, Yes we will be bringing the warm coats! Will be traveling in open pre runners down to the bay, and down to
San Fancisquito for a visit.

joerover - 12-27-2016 at 11:09 PM

what is the coldest temp you have seen in Baja sur?

Gulliver - 12-28-2016 at 07:43 AM

Near the water, low 40's once. Inland, freezing not that uncommon in Winter. I have cross country skied around the Laguna Hansen area. Again, not deep snow but enough so as to not skin up my skis.

As in more inclement climes, wind chill is so important. Right now it's 60 and calm in Mulege. Feels reasonable. Yesterday it was 50 and breezy and both Barbara and the cat got tired of my whining.

I have seen 22f in Parque 1857 in Baja Norte at 8PM, it got cold during the night.

What about the mountains of Baja Sur, How cold does it get down there, or is it up there?

Santiago - 12-30-2016 at 06:14 AM

Feb 2004 I woke up to snow on the mountain peaks behind BOLA.

bajabuddha - 12-30-2016 at 07:45 AM

Either four or five years ago we had snnn......... you know...... on the upper half of Tres Virgenes Volcano. I believe the temp got down to either 39 or 37 (f) at San Lucas Cove.

shari - 12-30-2016 at 08:02 AM

Although not a good week for tanning, it is nice and warm here in Asuncion the last few days....gotta be in the low 70's this morning..had to kick the covers off last night! The sun is trying to bust through some clouds so I am getting my bikini out!

Gulliver - 12-30-2016 at 09:12 AM

The locals in La Paz tell me that there has never been snow on the mountain range (La Laguna) South of there.
