It appears as if the price of Visas will go up, in the next few days. Prepaid visas that have been issued BUT NOT VALIDATED will be NULL AND VOID with NO REFUNDS. So there ya go...

When I got my fmm on 12/29 the man showed me a memo stating that the price would be 500 pesos after 1/1/17. Don't know about the rest.

A couple of years ago, the FMM cost approx $23 US. At today's exchange rate, it will cost $23.30. I did not see anything about the 'visa' that chuckie is talking about!

I hope that doesn't make the 180 day FMM I got in November invalid.

The FMM is what I speak of...Your visa will be OK unless it has not been validated yet.....

Mexico is getting nailed by the exchange rate which is showing at 21.53 p/USD today. That works out to be a bargain for 6 months of legal traveling or visiting. I don't begrudge them at all, look at what the mogas prices are doing to them, it is even more difficult to live if you're paid in pesos. Being a fiscal conservative, I hope I know the line that's crossed to become a real Scrooge and I don't want that to happen.

Rationalize anyway you wish..Mexico (Baja) is getting more expensive and less friendly all the time..Crime, prices, paperwork...More and more Gringolandias springing up, fishing in the crapper....

"Pay To Play" is a slippery slope. I'm not sure it's a good policy to depend on tourism to pick up the slack for government fiscal mismanagement.
There is more than sufficient operating capital available in-country if only the government would refine and define their tax codes.

While there is still some left in the tank, hopefully enough
to last me, so. of the Border, it is difficult to argue with that statement, a little negative, but compared to 'back in the
day', when free blank fmt's were available at AAA offices, a bus
ride TJ/La Paz was $14, the small towns were just that, no golf
courses, few marinas, a little more wild and wooly, fly by the
seat of your pants, but for the $ of a visa, ( Mex Imm also uses that
term for an fmm),

Just the opposite is true, in our area. The houses are quickly being bought by the Mexican rich and middle class, as gringos age and sell out, to be closer to Medicare and their grandkids (who are afraid of Mexico).

Actually, your entire statement makes no sense. With all the negatives you purport, gringos would be LESS likely to retire here, rather than "more and more Gringolandias springing up". The developments going in are designed for Mexicans, not gringos.

Of course, there are WAY more gringos on the Kansas Prairie, if you have an aversion to Gringolandia.

But I suppose the fishing for bluegill and catfish is still good. Meal worms and stink bait..........WHOO BOY!!! :rolleyes:

Poor Hookie...Actually I now do most of my serious fishing out of Venice Louisiana... I don't see where I am "supporting" any negatives, just stating facts...My "gringolandia" comment is my opinion. I cant/don't wish to live in a gated community in Mexico. In houses that look like they belong in the USA...I am glad that these developments are being built for the Mexican RICH and middle class...But I don't believe it..I can see that you are more familiar with our big prairies than I, so will yield to your expertise. ..

Do they have a way to check the FMM durations now?

I know you are supposed to return the FMM on your way north. For the first time, the nice official in Tecate told me so.

I've never had an issue when I have not returned the form. Will I?

We've been told at both Mexicali west and Chaparral that they do not take the expired 180 day version. In fact the two recent times we've gotten them, the fmm fellow not only filled our new fmms out for us, but both times they gave us both the expired and new form as we left.

It is sad that they all can't get on the same page about the rules for the FMM. It seems to be open to which INM agent you talk to.

In July and again in September, at Mexicali border downtown (or west if you prefer):

FREE FMM for 7 days or less, must be returned, passport is scanned.
Upon returning (at Tecate), they were in sync with Mexicali info and rescanned my passport.

[The idea here seems to be: if you stay longer they will charge you the 180 price and get the income you may have tried to avoid with a free FMM]

Friends who got free ones at Tijuana were NOT told to return them, however???
