I've stayed at Las Gardenias a number of times and enjoyed each stay. You'll see more Mexican's staying there, as it's a favorite among business folk. During one stay with a girlfriend, we were the only guests besides the Mexican Teenage Olympic Team. Late each night and each morning large schoolbusses would pull up under our window and release hundreds of squealing kids - from age 8 through perhaps 16. We began to look forward to this activity - the kids would be playing and laughing as they exited the bus and entered the hotel; little chirping noises we heard as they settled into their various rooms for the night. Our beds were often still shaking with laughter after all else had become quiet.

The hotel staff is curteous, kind and friendly - very attentive. It's the only hotel I've stayed at where by asking once you get plenty of fresh towels daily - some for the beach plus enough for two showers daily in the summer.... no signing out and returning extras, they just give 'em to ya and trust you to leave them.

There's a nice interior courtyard with kiddie pool and a larger one for adults. The cost was $35 per night for one, $40 for two - this price includes taxes and free local phone calls. Ask for a room facing the parking lot for a good view of the bay, as well as a nice breeze. Rooms are air conditioned if you're not a fresh-air fan.

Couple of cautions: Know that if you're in to lying in the shade by the pool, you'll have to follow the shadow of the small trees; there are no palapas. Also the pillows are a bit strange - made of small balls of foam inside a case; they're OK once you get used to them. Finally I suggest eating elsewhere - not that their food's awful, just not as tasty as many other spots a short walk away.

Enjoy your visit and let us hear about it when you return.

Has anyone stayed at Posada Luna Sol? Rates are similar to Gardenias ($35USD-S/$40USD-D).

No pool, but newer rooms & furniture, nice rooftop terraza, and close to La Costa, which is a plus for us.
