winter in baja?

My husband and I and our two golden doodles are thinking of spending the next winter, 3 months, in Baja. We'd like to be within 2-3 driving hours of san diego so my husband can easily travel home if needed. Where would you recommend as the best place? We are in our fifties, we don't party, get up early and go to bed early and would like to be walking distance to an off leash beach. We are hoping to get more fluent with our Spanish too.

We "snowbird" in Ensenada every year. Great place, plenty of things to do. We are 90 minutes from the border.

Although not within walking distance to the beach, we walk our two Labradors everyday on the golf course, no problems.

Majority of public beaches in Ensenada restrict dogs. You might want to look at Corona Beach, El Faro or out Punta Banda way or check out house rentals behind the Wal Mart MicroPlaza

Can you give us more info? Do you want to be in town or out in the boonies? Are you camping, RV'ing or plan to rent? THe pacific side can to chilly and windy at that time, do you know that? What else are you interested in?
The 5 hours south will get you to San Quintin, there are plenty open beaches, cities and towns. We'll try to help but we need more info.

San Felipe / Cortez side will have a milder winter climate as noted above.

Yes, though San Felipe is only 4 hours from San Diego proper and about 2:15 from the border (and an easier crossing at Mexicali).
