Planing a trip down end of week. Any reports on yellowtail/bait would be very much appreciated. Towing boat down, staying at El Morro, using slip at the marina. Thanks

I'm 75 miles to the east, but the YT fishing has recently become the best it has been all season, in the last week. 10-25 lb fish chasing tons of bait on the surface. It's run and gun fishing. They can be jigged up, too.

Before this, it has been a very so-so season.

One thing that has stood out about this season since I came back last Nov is the amount of bait in the water. It is EVERYWERE. Most bait I have ever seen over here and amounts that rival what it was like in the Mulege/SR area in the 90s. Mostly sardines, but we have had periods of huge schools of pacific mackerel, too. Macks are not very common over here.

Went bottom fishing in an area about 18 miles north of here and saw water that was alread 70 degrees. Sargasso around. Marlin have been spotted.

We caught a 7.9 lb. "calico" yesterday. Largest any of us had ever seen. Not a true calico bass, but a gold-spotted bass. One of the best eating fishes over here. I will see if I can get a pic from my buddy.

We seem to be coming out of the doldrums and we are seeing good bait and very good fishing. The yellowtail have returned and while they are still moving around a bit, they can be found. If you do not get one where you drop, just move to the next spot. Watch the pangueros as they seem to be up to speed on where the fish have been moving. The usual places north of San Marcos Island, The Ranch and some of the south places have had big boils working on top. Tortuga has put out some really nice grouper, Baqueta and some yellowtail are starting to show. You might want to look at Las Casitas as it is a much nicer motel to stay in and is slightly closer to the marina. Just Google Las Casitas Santa Rosalia, Brenda, the owner is a good friend.

@ Hook, thanks for the report. I need to hit that side of the Cortes some time in the near future. It's been many years since I have been over there.

@ Pescador, thanks for the come back and good info. I respect the time you have put in and what you have been doing down there. Casitas is very nice but it seems hard to get a room the last few years. Not sure what's up with the mine executives now.
I'll give her a call.

@ Woody, I'll get one for you.
