Gulliver's report and then mine was in February...
*Loreto-San Javier: Paved
*San Javier-Comondu (junction unmarked 4 mi north of San Javier) good except for the grade up and down Mesa las Animas (4WD low) between Palo Chino
and El Horno.
*Comondu-La Purisima: Good, and fast after the climb out of Comondu valley.
* I did the road from La Purisima to Hwy. 1 (near Rosarito) and that part was SLOW and ROUGH, 3.5 hours for the 36 miles in a lightly loaded Tacoma.
Only the two paved miles between La Purisima and San Isidro and the few miles close to Hwy. 1 were fast/ smooth driving.
Thanks guys. I think we will start from S Javier to Comondu and back
to Mex 1 via V Insurgentes.
I didn't take a ton of photos, but here is what I have from the San Javier Highway to San José Comondú (Feb. 4, 2017):
Grade up Mesa las Animas as seen near Palo Chino.
This 1700s lime kiln is right next to the road, at El Horno (The Oven).

Mission San José de Comondú (moved to this spot in 1736 from the 1708 site, over 20 miles north). This church was but a side chapel to what was the
largest mission church in all of the Californias... demolished in 1936.
