Walter Henderson's elusive rock pile

Fatboy - 4-12-2017 at 10:40 PM

Just returned today from a week of searching for the rock pile and to cut to the chase ... I did not find it.

But I did have some great, crazy, dangerous, perplexing, amazing experiences which will be posted later.

Here are some pictures....

Saw this and even saw some live ones....

Wonderful!!!
They don't call it Borrego Mountain for nothing!
Can't wait for the "rest of the story"!

This firepit was far from any road or trail, miles into my hike one day.

In another Arroyo not far from the Arroyo that the firepit was in and again far from any roads or trails was this rock 'wall'

With actual boots on the ground it was different thing Google earth. I pretty much eliminated my first area of search and now I believe they could have walked to Arroyo Grande under certain conditions.

I also found some area's I want to check out but on this trip I ran out of water and time before I had time. As important I crossed out large areas that do not fit in my mind.

Found a couple of spots that have no recent human activity but did have signs that it was traveled in the 1930's up until maybe the 1950's. I need to see if I can date some bottles I found in a small dump to get a better time frame.

last "fire pit" is a hunting blind. Looks recent

Favorite thread in a while! Pretty cool trip.

The second fire pit also could be a wind blind. I have built many of them to sleep behind. The mountains are full of them.

What I thought, to small -short- to be much of a blind, maybe a foot tall.

It was more it's location, pretty remote, that had me wondering.

The cool part was he sat there for at least five minutes, wish I would have had the zoom lenses with me!

Also found some quartz/tourmaline including some that I believe are rutilated in quartz, pretty neat looking.
