we have a very similar duro boat...
only older and only a 9.9hp

not as fancy

russ...you NEED to buy these for launching
just lag them to the wood bunks
it will be the BEST money you EVER spent

Thanks for the thought. The plastic works well enough though and the tin boat doesn't get roller dents. I can just do a slow back-up, put on the brakes and off she slides or just push it off in the water. Had rollers on my first tin boat, a Mammoth 14', down here and it got the dents and was a b-tch to get started off the trailer. That was a long time age and the rollers weren't as nice as yours.
Here's a shot of the bunks. I had larger tires for a short time. Big mistake.

I don't think they're as rugged as some other Baja tin boats I've been in but they do have a good reputation for holding up. 4 people in a 14' boat wouldn't be safe in my judgement. 16' or bigger. There is a lot to consider when picking a boat. Do your research carefully. You've been around awhile so I know you know what's important. http://www.duroboat.com/

I have the same boat in blue with 20 hp Tohatsu. Gets on plane pretty much instantly. I got mine after working with the owner of the company. Nice guy. They moved from Seattle to TN a few years back and I think it has been tough for them since the move. They had a nice following in WA State but are not the well known outside that area, especially now.

Thats a super clean tin can. I like the setup you made. I was running in 15 ft gregor for a long time that was bone stock. That thing took some abuse at the bay of la and recently in the pacific looking for the el nino tuna off socal. I love the tin cans with low weight and great mpgs. I want to make one like that in the future. Having everything loose flying around with every bump is not that great. What is great is catching the same fish as guys in crazy expensive boats right next to them, then not having to look for a launch ramp to come in.

I had a 21' ponga with 100hp Yamaha for many years between the Klamoth and DuroBoat. It was great when there were enough fish to go out and expect something every trip.

Beautiful

I can see that this was well thought out. Beautifully simple. Not much to break. I'm in a RIB now and looking to move to aluminium. Thankyou for the look see.

Tires

AKgringo - 4-24-2017 at 08:50 AM

Russ, what problem did you have with larger tires? The utility trailer I use on the beach in Alaska had 12 inch rims, and I found that going to 15 inch rims greatly improved it's performance.

The weight would be about the same as your boat, and the smaller tires were like pulling a plow!

Russ - 4-24-2017 at 10:02 AM

Only real difference was it raised the boat a couple inches more above the water. Harder on an off. I put the big wheels/tires on because I thought that highway travel would be better. Turns out it hasn't left PC.

AKgringo - 4-24-2017 at 10:59 AM

That makes sense. I have always tried to avoid launching my UT, so I found the extra couple of inches useful.
