Have spent time in La Paz and San Jose del Cabo and have really not found
the abundance of fresh produce like in some other parts of Mexico that I've been to. Just Soriana, Mega, etc. Not very good IMO.
Have even tried a few municipal mercados without much luck. Am I not looking in the right places or is the produce in BCS just not as abundant as
other parts of Mexico?

All the premium stuff is shipped north. Only when there is an abundance of a certain item will it get to our local markets. When we first moved here
in the 80's, El Pescador, here in Loreto, was the main market and produce you would find in an American market's dumpster was far better than what
they offered.
Has greatly improved since then with the arrival of Ley's and the Bodega, but still not nearly comparable to American markets.

Sorry suckers, big vegetable farm west of Mulege now... you go out and tell them what you want or ask what they are harvesting at the time and they
pick fresh and bring it to you but I don't know if this will be happening later in the summer...
It has been good this year......
no disrespect intended....

I had a very nice man and his wife show up at my house every Saturday..with all that I needed...Fresh picked..She told me she was Bruja' so I never
quibbled price for fear of being turned into a Chupacabra..I think those veggies came off the farm you mentioned, Ross..

The Sunday outdoor market in Loreto is pretty good. In-season produce in abundance, good quality and cheap. But some stuff you take for granted found
in most US markets are difficult to come by or poor quality. Logistics and profit margin I think (apples would be trucked from far away). Too, if
families are growing their own, they won't buy it in stores, so not profitable to stock it -- e.g., in the Comondus everyone has an orange tree - you
can't buy oranges in the markets, ditto tortillas. Part of the charm of going with the flow in Baja.

Agricole in Pescadero has some high-quality produce, much of which is grown within sight of the store. They also sell locally baked goods and have
a nice wine selection.

los barriles and san jose del cabo HAD community markets that had organically grown veges. i know los barriles' market had organically grown veges as
i know the farmer oscar personally and he is extremely fussy about his crops.

One thing I noticed in the Mulege / Sta. R. area was the fresh produce was seasonal... starting December things became fresher and prettier, and by
end of April as the local growing season ended, so did the really good stuff in general.
And to the OP, one thing about Baja produce is like Wendy's french fries..... "They ain't old 'til they're SOLD". Find a good Mercado, and shop for
what looks the most edible. I'd plan my meals at the store mostly, meat or produce. This ain't Whole Foods. I can't count the number of times
touristas complained about the smell of the local meat counter. If you couldn't find it in La Paz or Los Cabos, you won't be satisfied until safely
back home in the good ol' dependable USA.

Todos Santos and area have a few different local grown veggie stands. They have been closing when the heat arrives. Lizarraga in TS is OK and
Ortiz's roadside is good with seasonal goods. Much better than the selection used to be. Sueno Tropical is a large Organic farm here and exports
majority to US. Local strawberries...MMmmmm! Tio

5 de Mayo in la paz about half way up from the malacon. Small place with a bunch of produce on the left going up. Super fresh.
As always was everything really good... and stay away from any Marisico taco stands after 8 am. Fish and hot sun don't mix well.

Organic Market in La Paz
every Tuesday and Saturday, on Madero, one block east of 5 de Mayo.
Great produce, eggs, breads, fruits and German cold cuts + much more.
Starts around 8:00 AM until 1 or 2 PM
Have a great breakfast at the Bagel Shop of Cafe 1240 before going shopping at the Farmers Market

I agree with the organic market in La Paz being good. We bought some home made quiche there some time ago. Absolutely delicious. And there was a
person selling organic strawberries. Just all sorts of great food. And there's
(or at least there used to be) a great bakery right down the street.
If you're in La Paz this is definately worth checking out.
