Fireworks

JZ - 5-9-2017 at 11:04 PM

We always hit up the stand before San Felipe.

Going down the other side for a change. Any places between Ensenada and San Quintin?

woody with a view - 5-10-2017 at 05:01 AM

Rosarito pottery shops south of town for sure have them.

mojo_norte - 5-10-2017 at 05:32 AM

Please don't camp near me .

mtgoat666 - 5-10-2017 at 05:44 AM

I detest campers with fireworks!

This jz clown talked about having a dog, sounds like he is one of the many that really should not have a dog

tehag - 5-10-2017 at 06:59 AM

Living under a thatched roof with 2 dogs taught me a lot about fireworks and the thoughtless people who seem to like them.

woody with a view - 5-10-2017 at 07:13 AM

Bunch a old farts! Get off my lawn.......:lol::lol:

SFandH - 5-10-2017 at 07:17 AM

My two dogs freak out, as many do, when fireworks go off. The busiest time for San Diego animal control because of lost dogs that have bolted is 4th of July weekend.

Forget the fireworks.

JZ - 5-10-2017 at 08:45 AM

No dogs or thatched roofs will be around.

Pipe down you don't even go to Baja and a dog wouldn't even like you.

MMc - 5-10-2017 at 08:55 AM

There are a couple of shops on 2nd Street (the shopping street) in Ensenada that have signs up.

bajaguy - 5-10-2017 at 09:00 AM

Actually it is Calle Primera (first street), where all of the "tourist shops" are located

Bajaguy you are right. I usually say "the second street from the harbor", when I describe it, thanks. The firework are on that street and there are signs.

JZ - 5-10-2017 at 01:06 PM

Thx, will check them out.

Bob and Susan - 5-10-2017 at 01:13 PM

jz...when you find the place post a picture and map...I need to pick up some "cherry bombs"..no one has them here

Bajazly - 5-10-2017 at 01:50 PM

I got some in San Felipe last month and I think they were called "Cherry Booms" WAAAAYYYYY better than the M-80's.

Bob and Susan - 5-10-2017 at 01:53 PM

I use them for coyotes at 3am in the summer

they work good

Will do. I'm envisioning them not be near as good as the ones in San Felipe though.

AKgringo - 5-10-2017 at 04:26 PM

For years I did avalanche control at a Ski area near Anchorage. I had the training, and authorization to go purchase ammonium nitrate based explosives, blasting caps, fuses and igniters.

Best job I ever starved at!

Paying for their Sins

MrBillM - 5-10-2017 at 04:41 PM

I saw in the newspaper where a stockpile of Fireworks went BOOM in TJ.

Killing 14.

That's Life.

Every once in awhile, I would see those on the beach in Percebu get their "just deserts", though (unfortunately) no fatalities.

The BEST I personally witnessed was an imbecile with a beer bottle in one hand setting off M-80s near his camping spot with his wife yelling and their infant screaming its head off. After a number of them, he was leaning over and suddenly BOOM !

HE SCREAMED. He grabbed his arm and was running around in pain. THEY quickly threw everything into the back of their vehicle and roared off.

Presumably, to seek medical care in SF.

With a smile, I said to my wife "that DOES give you a warm feeling, doesn't it" ?

ONCE in awhile, people get what they deserve.

bajabuddha - 5-10-2017 at 04:43 PM

In response to Lencho's "boom factor" Q, I used to like 'em when a teen, but as a Vet not so much. When I relocated to San Lucas Cove there were a couple of residents who were semi-pro pyro freaks, would show up with stuff smuggled down from the north (yes, they were licensed to shoot 'em off). I explained to them I had a problem with it, and asked kindly and graciously would they please, please let me know in advance even if it was 5 minutes, so i'd be prepared for it. Of course, never happened once. The beer and marg's would flow, and BOOM would go the mortar. More than once I was on the carpet.

My point being, if you have ANYONE near you at least have the decency to take a stroll, tell 'em your intentions of pyrotechnics, and they can get their dog or their Vets (not the dog's vet) inside.

After a Lifetime of Observation ................

MrBillM - 5-10-2017 at 07:02 PM

It doesn't appear that an [Adult] enthusiasm for explosive Fireworks AND consideration for the feelings of neighbors resides in the same psyche.

On the contrary, there seems to be an allied objective and enthusiasm for irritating the non-participants in the area.

Confirmed often enough by the disinclination to take those explosives a distance away when there were endless miles of deserted beach available.

For some reason I can envision your wife getting a warm feeling when she cuts off your peker for all the miserable and boring years you put her through. And she'll say you got what you deserved.

Lee - 5-11-2017 at 08:40 AM

Don't apologize for liking fireworks and don't get how many dislike them. When Rancho Pescadero has a wedding, there will be fireworks on the beach. The ground shakes and the night sky lights up. Bliss.

M-80s, barrel bombs, cherry bombs, make my own bombs. Louder the better. Sorry to neighbors and Vets out there. Dogs can be trained to love fireworks. It's a celebration, people.

Let 'er RIP, JZ.

Living Down to Expectations

MrBillM - 5-11-2017 at 09:15 AM

I am always encouraged whenever those whom I consider "lesser" beings demonstrate traits which confirm my characterizations.

So, obviously, I can't be bothered by negative expressions which reinforce said opinions.

The juvenile fixation with the explosive fireworks that display no artistics, but simply shake the windows and ground, is a mystery to me, but I have noticed over the many years that those with that enthusiasm DO exhibit other characteristics consistent with a lack of maturity and intellect.

Given that I don't expect to (often) come in contact with said fireworks in the future, they are no longer a concern of mine.

Except for the rare instance in which someone in the neighborhood sets one or more off. And, I call it in to Law Enforcement.

I DO enjoy reading of incidents like the one in TJ.

Schadenfreude is good.

I have to admit to a chuckle over the ignorant attempt by JZ to incite anger. One shouldn't feel anger towards those whom he has no respect.

And, I don't.

Given that mi esposa DETESTS those fireworks with a passion that exceeds mine and has expressed the thought that they should ALL die, she isn't likely to feel antipathy towards ME.

Besides, both of us having had the misfortune of earlier marriages, appreciate how lucky we are to have found each other.

Something which she has continually said to friends and acquaintances.

The feeling is mutual.

As is our opinion of Rude Juvenile Behavior.

Great story. Here's mine.

Bought my first house (a repo) while single in my early 20's and had a couple extra bedrooms. My best friend had finished college and taken a job close by so was staying with me. One day we started having a firecracker war where we were running around the yard and tossing firecrackers at each other. He decided to take a shortcut through the house and surprise me in the front yard. Just as he lit a string of firecrackers and opened the front door, I pulled the door shut and held it closed. He panicked and immediately started yelling for me to open the door so he could get rid of the lit firecrackers. Nope, I held the door closed and listened to that string go off in the living room. 40+ years later we still laugh about it.

JZ is a petulant child showing off who he's "...laying with every night" like a pubered teen passing the pic of his latest (first) conquest, like it means something to anyone else.

I showed this post to my better half, and all she said was, "I'd kill him".

Sending in the Kids ?

MrBillM - 5-14-2017 at 12:45 PM

THAT doesn't seem very manly.

Better, though, than sending the Squeeze.

I guess.

BTW, how about a T & A photo so that a better evaluation of the spousal assets can be made ?
