Based on the photo, it appears the sign was illegible, so prob ineffective at getting msg across.

Legibility and objective aside, the only effect would be to make the creator feel better.
Which, I guess, is OK.
Any tourist so clueless that a message scribbled on a blanket makes the difference is, well ................ Clueless.
And beyond warning.
