Guerrero Negro Supermarket

nbentley1 - 6-13-2017 at 02:31 PM

last time we were in GN our usual supermarket on Carr. a Guerrero Negro had been fully taken over by the Casino. We found another that was a great alternative after a bunch of lefts and rights north of the main drag, we are going to be in GN Saturday and was hoping someone can can give me an actual address as I cant remember 100% were it was. Thanks

There is also another one if you continue through the village on the main street. Turn right just past the Banamex, and the large building in your right is a large market run by the Co-op. Largest market that I have found in this area. Excellent selection of meats, and produce, especially beef. Just be warned that the prices on the meats are for Co-Op members and your price will be different, although not unreasonable. BTW the Banamex has 4 or 5 ATMs that are very reliable. Much more so than the Bancomer in Vizcaino so if you need pesos, load up there because Vizcaino will disappoint you quite often.

The store Ross is talking about is a private subsidized supermarket only for the employees of the ESSA salt works..I am surprised they let you shop there Ross....they didnt used to allow the general public in at all.

Was wondering about this. Market was not to be found by us last month. Did not have time to go looking.

Same thing in October last year. I went looking remembering a Calimax next to a bank. Had la chapara mala ask a local and they were clueless, so we went back to the market in the front of town that gives you a bushel of flies, free with ever purchase.

Its open to the public now, but not as cheap as used to be.

Around the corner from the former Mercado Tianguis (now a casino) its a new store operated by the military, the SEDENA market (SEDENA = Secretaria de la Defensa Nacional). Its very clean, has better prices than other places in town and has a steady supply of local produce.

Two blocks back of the mercado tianguis is the Mercado Sonora, the biggest in town, well stocked with Costco merchandise and costco prices too.
