Sorry if repetitive but can't find my 6:00 am post.

If I apply for temporary residency, can I keep my 2006 automobile in Mexico? I have to go back and fourth to SF consulate to apply for temporary residency.
I want to keep my CA car if I get permission for temporary residency in Mexico.

At least keep your CA registration and Mex insurance current.

gnukid - 6-22-2017 at 09:44 AM

yes, You can keep your car. There is no restriction for temp resident to drive a us plated car in mexico though on mainland you will need a TIP when heading south.

I am worried about the car's age.

Its Baja..quit worrying

You just crossed the border and in my opinion, it's time to start to enjoy the reason you came down here.

Be aware of your surroundings and in due time everything will come around.

Take a deep breath, smell the cactus along the way and don't be in a hurry, isn't that one of the reasons you came to Baja?

In Baja, it all works out........:light:

bajabuddha - 6-22-2017 at 04:49 PM

dmer, in Baja they usually fix your car better and cheaper than half the hacks in the States... plus the older it is the better they know it, and have parts/boneyards to pick from.
Don't worry, be happy.

p.s., in Mulege there are some excellent mechanics. One is Oscar on the icehouse road (you'll hear of it when you get there) and the other is across the road a bit from the entrance to the Serenidad Hotel (forgot the name). I've used 'em both extensively, no complaints. Ask around from the locals wherever you are.

car is good.

you and car are good.

What kind of car?

AKgringo - 6-22-2017 at 07:56 PM

Not that it matters for importing it, but it would be useful to know for anyone recommending fun side trips, or mechanic referrals.

I am worried about your worries - their scale, urgency and randomness.

Having barely driven few hours in, and posting a question early in the morning about temp residency and car... Question answered, - nope, doesn't help, still worried about the car's age.

You can't be serious. Nobody in his sound mind can.

Bigger cup holders?

LancairDriver - 6-25-2017 at 08:23 AM

Why not just operate with your six month tourist permit? When it gets close to expiring go back across the border and come back again for another six months. This will give you plenty of time to familiarize yourself with life in Baja and then make more permanent arrangements.

I apologize but where do these people come from?:( Did this woman ever disclose her interests in traveling to Baja? The new age consists of computer blablazo... just go for it or stay home. You know, the adventurous Spirit. No clue.

chuckie - 6-25-2017 at 08:43 AM

Same thing I continue to wonder about...Whatever happened to going to Baja, exploring and enjoying yourself? I don't apologize..Their problem...

You can keep and drive your foreign plated car under temporary residency.

You must inform Aduana of your residency status and you only have a very short window of time to do that when obtaining this status.

You must inform Aduana of subsequent renewals of your temporary residency in order for your car to remain legal here and not to forfeit the deposit.

If you can't handle this yourself, I suggest you employ the services of a facilitator.
