Exchange and other bank changes

Russ - 6-26-2017 at 11:47 AM

Just returned from Mulege. Went to the bank to get pesos but they won't take a check from my dollar account to buy pesos now. Big hassle and finally they used my ATM card and the check to do it. Had to get a new ATM card too. 45 minutes to get it done.Exchange was only 17.25 today. Jeeze, they really know how to encourage tourism.

Bancomer in Mulege. This is new. I wanted less than $2000us in pesos. didn't mater what amount they wouldn't exchange one of their dollar account checks for pesos. My US bank was never at issue.

Boy, that doesn't seem right, especially considering you're an area resident and have an account at the bank.

Lots of gringos at the beach had ATM problems with that bank last winter. I think I'm going to fund a Bancomer account in TJ before I go to Mulege next winter.

you need to deposit dollars in a peso account ...then withdraw pesos

you cant write a dollar check and get pesos...

you can only deposit $2000usa a month

you need a peso account

It wasn't just my Wells Fargo or Edward Jones cards that were rejected in Mulege last November. They would not exchange US greenbacks for pesos either!

It was the same in Loreto, so when I left La Paz, I made sure I had enough to get to the border. Both cards worked fine at the Walmart in La Paz.

I think you need an account for that. I'm sure B&S will clarify.

they don't exchange dollars for pesos here

you need to deposit the dollars in a peso account
then withdraw the pesos from that account

you get a good daily rate
