Maybe now there'll be some cash to fix those potholes once and for all!

To add too the smell;
All the oil drilled will be refined into gasoline for both countries @ Port MacArthur Texas, the worlds largest refinery which is now owned by the
Saudis BTW

They did several test wells looking for oil in Baja... back in the 1930s to 50s. In the desert near Scammon's Lagoon (Laguna Ojo de Liebre) and near
Puerto Santa Catarina, south of El Rosario, as I recall.
I think they determined Baja was too young to have oil below it?

Back in Feb '77, with a copy of Cliff Cross' guide, a friend and I headed out for Malarrimo beach in my Baja Bug.
After getting lost for awhile out on the salt evaporation ponds, we located (we thought) the correct trail.
Traveling for a number of hours without seeing another vehicle or person, we came across a large newly-fenced area filled with equipment and a single
Mexican living in a small shack.
"Cool. We'll ask if we're on the right road".
Quickly discovering that the Mexican spoke no English, I struggled through with my very inadequate Spanish.
And found that he had no idea what we were talking about.
He'd been hired (in Ensenada) as a caretaker/guard for the oil exploration equipment and wasn't even certain where he was, much less a beach that he'd
never heard of.

Does this mean I'll have to get a different license plate?
