San felipe beaches

We usually stop in San Felipe for the night when we are on our way to other places we havent gad a lot of time to check out the beaches other then the one in front of where ever we stay
We are heading down for a couple of days and wsnt to hang out on the beach
Ee are looking for somewhere safe and not to crowded

2+ miles south of Percebu head east off the hwy and you are there. you will love it.

Yes, Shell Island is an awesome beach... but 4WD only, have an air pump because deflating the tires is normal to not dig in. Also, it is called an 'island' because, during the highest tides (full or new moon), water does surround it. Many do not like to drive when the ocean is covering the road to the beach! Km. 26+ It is 2.5 miles to the beach and the island runs one mile to the south and three miles to the north (opposite Rancho Percebu).

Warning: Usually no people, no services, no help. This is Baja beach camping in the raw! There is Internet and cell service if you have the right provider, however. (We learned this because my daughter-in-law was posting to Facebook while we were camping there!)

I agree, the beach south of Percebu is great! It's my favorite in the region. The cantina at Percebu is very good also, just don't be in a hurry. Their shrimp c-cktails are fantastic!

if you do not have 4 wheel drive..... you can still enjoy without driving out onto the beach. park on high ground and you can see your vehicle from the beach. walk a couple 100 feet. fun place, great shells

Yes, you can also park at Percebu so no concern about mud driving during full or new moon phases and walk across the lagoon onto Shell Island.

15+ miles south of town to the beaches David mentioned.
More beaches 7+ miles north of town. One is only 1 mile north across from the hotel. It has a rope across the entrance and a guy to control access. Name?

Sounds like Campo El Pescador at Km. 184+?

The Ejido Pemex is closest at Km. 184.
Hotel Sky Blu is at Km. 182 and Hotel Diamante is at Km. 185.5

what's the name of the beach about 1 mile south of town? You definitely need 4wd to visit it.

Where that lagoon fills under the bridge,... several palapas? I never paid attention to a name... always way too close to town or crowded for my liking. I will see if I can get a name on my next trip.

Hmmm... I do not know!

After Km. 0, the left turn off the airport road (6 miles south of downtown), then the first campo is near Punta Estrella.

Maybe point to it on Google Earth?

From the palapas south is nice if you only have a short time. We spent the night in san felipe in May and had a couple hours to kill so we dropped down and had the beach mostly to ourselves. We went to the malecon and it was wall to wall people on the beach there. Good people watching.

All beaches around SF blow. Keep heading South until Gonzaga.

The whole North East side of Baja above it is ugly. Flat low lying land with a tide that goes out for miles making the beaches even more crappy.

Good Baja starts at Gonzaga. Suck it up and make the drive.

PS, it's not an island, it's a boring sandbar.

Tides, mountains against the ocean, landscape, islands, bays.

Places like Puertecitos to the North are god ugly. Like the land has been strip mined.

Same thing on the West coast of Sonora. San Carlos and the 50 miles above it are unbelievably beautiful. PP is terrible.
