Horse Races & Cabalgata(new pics)at the Fiestas Tradicionales in Bahia Asuncion

We all had so much fun at the horse races during the Fiestas Tradicionales here in Asuncion. My daughter's family is here so it was great to be with everyone.

I love hangin out by the different camps watching them prepare their horse...this gorgeous filly was my favorite of the day and won!

As usual there was live music and a beer tent where the local vaqueros hang out!

Nomads Mick & Penny fit right in eh!

the horses are walked up and down the track a few times to let everyone inspect them, then they do another couple laps with the jockeys.

this horse needed 2 guys to hold it back.

the winning owners are always so happy!

Apart from the race horses, I love the local vaquero vibe there.

Love the horse races in Baja. And from what I've seen in San Ignacio, there is some serious side-betting going on, correct?

The Cabalgata which is like a horse rally is always held on Aug.15th and is open to anyone with a horse! It is a nice social vaquero event...I love all the beautiful saddles and tack...many of it made up in la Sierra de San Francisco. Here they are parading through town following th band playing in the truck.

and my favorite horse ...Platano!
