Those of us who live in this area know the violence has dramatically escalated in the past year or more. If one reads local news, such as Colectivo
Pericu, people are being assaulted and murdered in the Los Cabos area on a near daily basis. Tourist destinations are somewaht insulated, excepting a
few incidents, the one most striking occuring in broad daylight at La Palmilla. One day about a month(?) ago was dubbed "red Friday for the number of
people killed.
Apparently , there is a major turf battle going on with "La Nueva Generacion" cartel being primarily responsible. the leader has been described as
particularly brutal. As we likely know, the escalation began when El Chapo was jailed and the cartels fragmented.

We had a recent shoot out in the town we live in in Sonora, too.
But Cabo has WAY more tourists. In all this increased violence, have there been any tourists shot?

Yes, more being in the wrong place at the wrong time. No deaths that I am aware of. Most of the violence is occurring in the areas north of San Jose,
between downtown and the airport in the neighborhoods above/below la carraterra. However, there have been shootings in the hotel corridor, in downtown
Cabo and San Jose. Tourists are not the target, but the shooters are brazen and shootings have happened during the day.
As well, a mass grave was located outside of SJDC

You guys have not read the article. The article is interesting portrayal of the inequality and indifferent government behind the violence.
The article does not particularly make a point of saying that "the problem is poor people and drug dealers, tourists and wealthy retirees should not
worry..."

The article is correct in clearly pointing out that with the government's rush to establish tourist infrastructure, the actual residents have been
ignored, forgotten. The average person's confidence in the government is about zero. The vast majority of crimes, including violent crimes as well as
the major crime: corruption rarely result in a conviction or jail time.

Also , the article mentioned the beach , La Palmilla where people were shot and killed in daylight. I have never been able to determine WHO the
victims were, whether tourists, or somehow connected to a cartel.
According to Colectivo Pericu, the powers that be are VERY worried about the surge in violence and it's potential effect on tourism, especially after
the State Dept issued the recent alert , including Los Cabos.
it is not unreasonable to think that tourists may become more at risk.
As well, El Zacatal, north of San Jose and before the airport, has as mentioned in the article has been hardest hit by violence.
