Sonrisanet.org? Geary

jaymtb - 9-19-2017 at 01:39 PM

Has anyone heard how Geary, who runs sonrisanet.org weather is doing? He may be back in the states for medical care? Hope he will recover.
Many thanks for his service over the years.
Maybe someone from Mulege has an update? ... J

The silence is deafening. I fear that is not a good sign.

But I hope for the best. He is, without a doubt, the best weather wizard in the Sea, at this point.

Whay freq does he broadcast?

Hook - 9-21-2017 at 05:16 AM

3.968 mhz, so 3968 khz, unless interference dictates a change to a close frequency. I seem to remember it was usually 3.958, if a change was needed. That would be announced a few minutes before the net begins.

Here is a listing of the nets in the Sea.

BTW, Woody, he did usually cover weather along the outside (Pacific) of Baja. Usually wind and waves off-shore. This could be listened to by any number of "world band" radios that tune in this band. Some type of basic, external antenna would be preferable.

I'm sure the net has continued, in his absence, though this is definitely not the prime cruising season. Has anyone picked up his weather in his absence? I am far away in Idaho, away from my long wire receiver.

Is there a daily marine band/UHF net in BOLA? Usually someone in San Carlos would give a rehashing of his weather during our net.

This was the latest entry in his blog before going north for check up.

So, he's over a month late returning, and no blog entry.

Hook, I'm not sure where the BdeLA originates from. I'm just starting to tinker and haven't listened but others do.

from his FB page

"What i though would be 10 days in America has now turned into around 6 weeks. My estimated time to return to the beach is now mid to late September. Bummer!"

Isn't Geary still located in his palapala on the beach in Coyote Bay??

Loved to get up early for the Bahia Concepcion sunrise and walk down from Muzik mountain and watch him compose his broadcast.

Best wishes to Geary. When we were camping with only the vhf and short wave it was nice to hear from him, and others, in the morning.

Looks like he's back; I checked his site yesterday and he had updated it.
