camping near La Mona

Is there any decent spots to camp south of BofLA, toward La Mona? Camped out the other way near La Gringa, but never out towards La Mona.

Most folks call the other side 'Rincon'... There is a nice beach just where the road forks off to go to that side, on the left... it is just south of the Muñoz property homes.

After that, you have a big lagoon/ mud flat area, so depending on the moon (or if sea levels ever do rise) it could be gooey near the beach?

there are drainages that have water sometimes but otherwise would be doable. when the north winds blow the beach disappears and the waves break against the bushes. that wouldn't be a good time to camp there!

For sure... and the camping area is behind the sand dunes not next to the water where I took those pics. Super high tides will come up to those bushes, indeed.

When I visited several years ago the La Mona area had a private community feel to it, closed gate at guard shack. We were able to gain access for 10 minutes by sweet talking the guard.
Not sure where David is referring to, but sure didn't see anywhere camping would be allowed.

Edit to add: I suppose you could camp mid beach (David's photo location) between the private property to the SE and SW, just never seen anyone camped there. Personally I prefer camp areas that have a caretaker (and charge a small fee) for safety. I would not feel my stuff is safe if leaving camp when camping alone.

Hi Bruce, my photos are just south of the Capt. Muñoz property and runway where the bay curves at the south end. Red arrow...
