GJ: I get "Page missing"
One of my real embarrassing moments in Mexico - first or second trip to visit my Dad who was staying the winter at Punta Banda and he hires a guide. While we are catching bottom fish the guide tell us his favorite recipe that included soy sauce. I look at him and ask, "You can get soy sauce down here?" The look on his face told me I had just insulted him and his country, which of course I had.

S.S., thanks for providing the link. Interesting article, and according to the caption under the seashore photo, Mexicali has a beach! I must have missed every time I passed through.

Did I miss a big earthquake which moved things around?

Best Chinese food I’ve ever eaten was down the street from La Perla hotel ( away from the malceon) turn left & on the corner upstairs... Chinese decorations, menu, people..... And then they speak Spanish!!

The Chinese in La Paz came over for the oyster industry that is no longer there back in the 1800’s....

I still WOW people at parties with my peanut-oil fried jalapeno peppers that then soak in soy sauce for a couple days. I learned that trick at that excellent fish taco place on the corner of the square in San Quintin. Believe it was called La Pasadita or something similar to that.

Strips of that (with seeds!) in a batter fried fish taco with lime, cabbage and the Mexican crema is a great combo. Pico de gallo salsa clashes with this, IMO.

Dubious history! But it makes a good story.
Soy sauce spread all over the world as soon as European exploration of Asia began. soy sauses had already spread across all Asia many centuries before Marco Polo was born.
Soy popularity is world wide, because it’s tasty, and traders/explorers spread the taste widely, likely not because the Chinese immigrants brought it.
In USA soy sauce is 3rd best selling condiment, right behind ketchup and mayo.

Thank you S.S.

When I posted the link, it wouldn't work for me, no matter how I tried to correct it, but I figured some Nomad would help.
