My go-to jigging lure has always been a 5/8 or 3/4 oz. Luhr-Jensen Krocodile 'blue mackerel'. The 5/8 oz. has a little 'blood drop' plastic disc at
the hook-lure junction ring, and if I use a lure without it I usually fashion a little triangle flag of red duct tape on the hook shank to simulate
one..... works like a charm. Rip some lips!
yeah I suppose you could always BAIT fish if you have to....
But really, what else is a 3# yellowtail good for?
Nice catch.woody with a view - 10-12-2017 at 07:22 PM
We were catching 25# YT in 180’ using live macs. Got a bite and could tell it was really small. Got a couple of turns on the reel and got rocked!
20+ minutes later the 20” YT came into view followed by this grouper. The struggling Yt caused a reaction strike and it ultimately pushed the YT off
the hook and up the line, still attached. Total fluke catch. 80# spectra 80# mono top shot. Torium 30HG with upgraded drag.
Ya never know what’s down there!

Best top water lure for grouper and bottom jigging lure. Please include color and size. Don't want much do I?
Live bait works best. When jigging and you catch a small, hook him up and send him back down. Jigging will pass the time while the live bait works
better.
I don’t think color matters for jigging. Technique is way more important.woody with a view - 10-13-2017 at 05:08 AM

A couple comments: When using lures in shallow water ( 40' to 80') troll with Marauders, I use my wahoo stuff. Need to use heavy tackle and don't
let the grouper run or it goes into the rocks and you will never catch it. Put heavy weight on high test leader. My biggest grouper was caught off
of Loreto while fly lining for yellow tail on the surface with live mackerel. This fish was an accidental catch in about 300' of water. 113#'s, I
believe is still the IGFA world record for Gulf Grouper. They get much larger but very hard to catch.motoged - 10-13-2017 at 11:14 AM
Those look good. Have you tried them, and do you know a source in the U S? I've been using Halcos, another Aussie brand, lures for the past two or
three years and caught scores of wahoo and yellowfin on them. The Madscads look they would work for those species as well.Hook - 10-13-2017 at 03:15 PM

I got mine from the manufacturer in Australia but there is a distributor in Louisiana - http://strikertackle.com
I didn't see the Madscad listed but they say they are going to carry the full Nomad line.
