Baja Cactus Restaurant now under construction!

David K - 10-12-2017 at 06:45 PM

A big surprise is seeing the earth all dug up for the future building that will include a new restaurant and one that will have a professional staff, including a real chef. I will anxiously await news of the grand opening.
When I am back home, construction photos will be added. During construction the office is accessed from the secured parking lot.

Until the new place is open, do try the El Faro restaurant, on the left, past Motel Sinahi if southbound.

Why el faro?

Why baja cactus? We don’t even know yet if it’s any good.

I prefer “mi casa” the little place next to police station (across from baseball field)

A new restaurant is a good thing! Can't wait to try it out.

Becasuse, NOMADS and DAvid are the official advertisers for Baja Cactus. Many other people have no problem staying in San Quintin where there is a nice variety of hotels and restaurants (with real chefs).

I for one am more than a little giddy waiting for these construction photo's to surface! :P

Good people and good services for travelers should be rewarded with recommendations.
Leaving El Rosario now... enjoy yourselves!

Very few have given as much as Antonio to the area and yes David promotes his businesses as anyone else would for a friend. If you have a favorite place to stay and eat post it, nobody will object unless they have had a bad experience there.

Many on here have very good things to say about Jardines and it comes across as an excellent place to stay and eat.

What is a real chef? One who has went to school or one who has learned from experience in moms kitchen. If you want an exotic dish head to Cabo, LA, New Orleans or NY. If you just want good food ask around.

We stayed at Baja Cactus a few weeks ago and noticed the construction. I think the restaurant will be a nice addition to town. We prefer Las Pasaditas or we get pizza but I forgot the name of the place.

And yes there are plenty of places near San Quintin. Lately we've been staying at La Mision.

David knows what a real chef is. I prefer good food. The restaurant at the Old Mill (Molino Viejo) is excellent.

On my last trip south, I had the honour of getting a ride with my idol Trudy Angel of Saddling South fame and was highly entertained by her amazing stories of rides she has done including the Mula Mil!
We stayed in an old room at Baja Cactus which was fine but liked that it was quieter now that cars arent parked in the front area so no doors slamming at 5 in the morning and cars starting up.

I look forward to eating at the new restaurant indeed.

Our favorite place to eat is the taco stand that is always busy before the turn on the north side of Baja Cactus.

Every time I go by there it is busy - I will stop on the next trip.

By the way, any work being done on the casa de bombero across the street?

Mama Espinoza's needs some competition since they don't care about their food any more, or about customer service.

Stop there for breakfast once a year with no expectations. Eggs are eggs but I understand what you're writing. Would not go there for dinner. I'll give Cactus a try for breakfast when they open.

Is it just me or did we lose all manners on this board. I don't mind a restaurant review that is negative, I have even given a few, but I try my best not to get "Snarky".

Your criticism comes across as snarky.

Udo is calling it the way he sees it. I've never read a snarky post from him.

Mama's place passed with her. Maybe not.

I have high hopes for the new Cactus restaurant.

willardguy - 10-15-2017 at 04:34 PM

no doubt when the new cactus is open i'll be one of the first to crack a cold one as I drive by.....but if you haven't been to Mama's be sure to stop and browse the offroad memorabilia...then hit the taco stand;)

On our last trip we stayed at Baja Cactus and found our rooms and the service from the front desk excellent. If the food at the new Restaurant is a good as the motel, I believe it will be an excellent meal and worth the money paid. During our stay in El Rosario, we ate at Mama Espinoza's, our food and the service was excellent. We also had my truck detailed across the street from the Motel and the guys did a fantastic job... and then I went out and found some really great dirt roads.:biggrin: JH

TMW - 10-16-2017 at 07:27 AM

What did it cost to have your truck detailed?
