Valle de Guadalupe - advice wanted - private driver?

Machaca - 10-14-2017 at 10:32 AM

Hi, we are looking for a way to see Valle de Guadalupe? We have heard the wineries are great. We live in San Diego. We just want to do a day trip. One idea we have is to walk across the border ourselves and meet a driver to drive us around all day. Is this common? Any recommendations for a good safe driver with references?
Ideally: clean, modern reliable car with air conditioning for 2 people plus the driver, non-smoking, limited English OK, winery recommendations optional (we could provide addresses if needed). Driver must know the area (NO GETTING LOST!) We are not looking for luxury, just comfortable, safe and good value. Thanks!

Many years ago, maybe 10 or so, I hooked up with Steve Dryden who was doing tours in his car and van in the wine country. He was very knowledgeable, enjoyable and reasonably priced for a 3/4 day tour. I think he spent time in the area as a youth and if he is still doing tours would be my go to person. He came by my RV campsite and picked me up in his car.

Maybe you can track him down from the below article or someone else can chime in.

That sounds like a great ideal for some enterprising group. The tourist drives to Guadalupe Valley and connects with a service/driver that takes them on a wine tasting adventure for a half day, 3/4 day or all day. Have lunch while there.

I know Discover Baja has wine tasting day trips to Guadalupe Valley but I think they meet at their office then drive down.

I emailed Steve Dryden and here is his reply.

Hello Tom I'm living in Nelson, British Columbia now, thus I no longer offer wine tours in Baja.

Check with Pete or Andy Rowland in Ensenada about their wine tours, Steve

Lots of businesses now doing trips/tours of wine region, with departures from San Diego, TJ, Ensenada, etc.
You can do a big group by bus, arrange custom, etc.
Google it up

P.s. due to length of drive from San Diego, I think it’s preferable to drive myself and stay the night. Lots of nice lodging options available
