on the go refueling allowed in SCORE?

capt. mike - 2-23-2005 at 11:08 AM

Should on the fly refueling like done by Mark Miller's Trophy Truck team at the 1000 this year be allowed in future races??

See TW's post on the rule book change... it's already been decided.

It was a creative concept, but put most of the racers at a disadvantage.

Off road racing was a sport which combined the skills of man with the durability of his machine. Getting refilled while you are in motion on a highway doesn't seem to represent an advance in dirt road driving skill or durable equipment.

Like I said in TW's post, it was a creative idea.

miguel, you need to reverse the order of possible responses.

Ha! you're right Mateo...say, where's

the pictures?? Invoice me but I want dupes...!! And of course reverse that order. You me and Barb need to plan for south and soon when the dodos hit!

I know DK, it's a rule already decided upon. I am just having fun. But I think not everyone really gets it; once you stifle advances in engineering and imagineraty (yes. it's a word! but I am using it in the wrong adjativial tense for disclarity) at the non commercial and hobbiest level where they have initially no $$ incentive other than to claim bragging rights, you kill initiative valued just for initiative's sake.
It's like a "handicapping" event where all are put on level "parr".
That's fine for socialism, grading on the curve and some of the other whitebread "isms" , but if you are going to want to push the envelope un-fettered into new territories, then allow a little discretion in at least one event. You wonder, if there is a Cap on some detail, and no one can exceed it, how does one know what the limit of the function might be? I just don't like restrictions on this level of sport, would think they could have written code to deal, with it as a field condition.

Can some one tell me exactly how this would be done?

I kind of agree with you CM, have to have the ability to reach new heights of invention/inovation. The class that used that has enough money to make is safer than mid air refueling. But for safety (of others) I guess there must be some limits. But keep trying new things.

Tis subject has been kicked around in the heads of more than one team in the past. My buddys were considering it a few years ago and decided the safety factor was not worth it. If the connection was not made and/or any sparks came into play, it could go bad real quick. Just a fuel spill alone would wreak havock. When I heard on the radio that Miller pulled it off, I was stoked and giggling to myself thinking about how they rigged the truck.

I agree with you Capt. Mike. I like the original thinking. It would be interesting to see the technology advanced to the point where they could do on the fly refuleing on Morelia road if not Matomi wash.

thx Grover for the pic!

appreciate the participation from all, polls are fun stuff......if you can't have fun and stir up a little debate every now and then, might as well watch TV.
