Touring around the Asuncion area!

shari - 12-7-2017 at 05:58 PM

My brother Mike & his wife Jane have been visiting Asuncion so we have been doing some fun outings with them. First we showed them Playon where we saw a gam of about a dozen gray whales heading south!

while beachcombing we did a lobster trap rescue...this trap was stuck in the sand and had several live lobsters in it. So we dug it out and towed it up to high ground and let the vigilancia know where it was.

Then a walk on the beach in San Roque

and of course a visit to the rebuilt church there...love it there is no door!

the graveyard got some new paint!

then hamburgers at the world famous Casa de Hamburguesa!

next was a visit to San Hipolito for a lobster feast with Juan's sister and brother in law! We took the beach road and found lots of abalone shells and nice rocks on the beach.

You never know what you will see along the roads of Baja eh!

Pta Prieta

then on to San Hipolito to Tita & Bimbo's

Jane playing with her food!

Juan slaying langostas ( please dont report him to PETA)

they live right beside the coop building and the slipway where they pull the pangas up with a winch. Those wooden crates are called Recibos where they store the lobster every day...the truck came in that morning and took a load to market.

this is what Juan wants for Christmas for launching his panga

We had alot of fun touring around our area..thanks for joining us!

This post made my night and convinced me that I am going to visit your area. Can you provide more detail on how those lobsters were cooked? JH

Days like these remind me why I love living in rural Baja where I feel safe and enjoy a simple lifestyle surrounded by natural beauty.

the typical way to cook lobster here is to cut them open down the back to split them in two then sprinkle a bit of flour salt and pepper on them and fry them face down in a bit of oil in a big covered frypan.

great with mayo & lime and of course some holy guacamole!

I bet your family loved that tour! Great weather we are having to boot. Thanks for sharing.

That road from San Roque to Playon is fun one, driving down the sand dunes. Going back up might be a little harder, lol.

Great, looks like a really fun tour. Thanks

Thanks for the tour. Lots of nice stuff to see and experience in the 'mid-pac' area of THE BAJA.

Yes....I have gone up and down that a dozen times on dirtbike....it requires some speed going up in that soft deep sand even on the bike....how would a 4X4 Silverado do w/ 26 lbs in tires ? :?:

Seeing if these maps help visualize the report...

Gracias David...there is a vigilancia road that runs at the very edge of the beach on tat little stretch between Punta Prieta & San Hipolito that is marvelous for shells & cool stuff & a surf spot called Las Costillas AND the shore fishing at the lighthouse rocks!!!

Are lobsters available in July in Asuncion? Will probably been in the neighborhood that time of year. Thanks.

Jinete Viejo - 1-11-2018 at 01:57 AM

Shari, are there still locked gates on the vigilancia road? Should we expect any problems riding this road in March?

shari - 1-11-2018 at 10:08 AM

Lobster season ends the end of February Alan..sorry.
There is no gate on the vigilancia road from Asuncion to San Hipolito.

Jinete Viejo - 1-11-2018 at 09:02 PM

Shari, my mistake. I was referring to the road between Puerto Nuevo and Asuncion. Do you know if the gates on this stretch of road will be open in March?
