Diesel in Bahia de los angels

acrosstheamericas - 12-12-2017 at 11:49 AM

¡Hola! Amigos
We are waiting for the diesel since Friday here in Bay LA. They keep saying ‘mañana’

Any tips if someone is selling here? We got for 100km and need to go south.

Cheers!

Bob and Susan - 12-12-2017 at 12:22 PM

find a Mexican diesel truck and offer the owner PESOS for diesel...

in mexico you can NEVER run out of fuel if you have PESOS

Bob and Susan - 12-12-2017 at 12:24 PM

or...find an owner of a generator...a BIG generator...they have diesel

woody with a view - 12-12-2017 at 01:03 PM

The guy at the hiway 1 intersection has some. Unless he’s out.

ehall - 12-12-2017 at 04:00 PM

Haha manana . Doesn't mean tomorrow it just means not today. Start letting the locals know your problem. Might be surprised were help can come from.

Good idea!! Gonna check ard. Cheers🍹

bkbend - 12-12-2017 at 06:16 PM

Xitlali market at the south end of town is one of the few places with a large generator, I do not know of it is gas or diesel. Not much in town runs on diesel so they don't seem to order any until it runs out. Maybe manana.

David K - 12-12-2017 at 06:20 PM

What about ships that call at Bahía de los Angeles? Is marine diesel not compatible with automotive diesel? Maybe too high a sulfur content?

chuckie - 12-12-2017 at 06:29 PM

Ships?:o

I took a few multi-day boating trips out of BOLA in the 80s and 90s when fuel of ANY type was sketchy at the one Pemex that the Diaz's seemed to run. Diesel didnt arrive until many years later, but we were able to contract with a local to run to Jesus Maria with our fuel cans and get us some diesel for the late 90s Cummins we towed a boat down with. It should be very easy to find someone to do the same with one of those 12 gallon outboard tanks that many pangueros use.

chuckie - 12-12-2017 at 07:31 PM

I had 610 gallons delivered last week, but I don't think the hose will reach..Maybe I can locate a ship headed that way?

Put a natural gas conversion on your truck engine and davidk’s gas-bag-osity could fuel you to the moon and back! :light:

Another alternative is to collect fryer grease and refine your own bio-diesel :light:

Next time drive a gasoline-powered Toyota, like a Prius hybrid! :light:

chuckie - 12-12-2017 at 07:44 PM

Last option doesn't work anymore.....Best thing to do is to buy acase of cold brownies and wait for the truck..

Doug/Vamonos - 12-12-2017 at 09:57 PM

Happens regularly at the Bay. Always fuel up as soon as you get into town. Don't wait till you leave. Best move I made was putting in a 60 gallon tank in bed of my truck. Jesus Maria isn't too far.

chuckie - 12-12-2017 at 10:21 PM

Where is it parked now? Was Capt Kidd the skipper? You are such a windbag B Ser....What good was something that happened in 1967?

willardguy - 12-12-2017 at 10:33 PM

wait a minute...david K was 10 years old in 1967, a hardened and experienced adventurer and explorer....I think he knows a ship from a boat! you go Kman!

chuckie - 12-12-2017 at 10:43 PM

I am sure you are right...lessee? In 1956 and 57 I was a regular visitor to BAJA looking at the BIG boat ships ...In 1967 I was a team member of the second place winners of the South East Asia war games. I saw BIG boats there too....DK ? PHONEY....

chuckie - 12-13-2017 at 12:14 AM

I vividly remember DK's Daddy holding him up in 1957 at DESBASE San Diego on the pier'''Look at the BIG BOATS, Davey" DK got so excited he puked his pablum...

wow

Dk,
I was here in 1967 and got a photo of your dad!

woody with a view - 12-13-2017 at 08:15 AM

On the good ship, Lollypop!

PeregrineA1 - 12-13-2017 at 08:37 AM

I was north bound, south of Punta Prieta, on 11-22 and saw a guy driving a Nissan Leaf towing a trailer with a generator on it.

That's dedication to the fuel source....

4x4abc - 12-13-2017 at 10:41 AM

difference between a boat and a ship is - a boat moves when you step aboard

caj13 - 12-13-2017 at 10:42 AM

sure: but for some here, true hapiness only comes from poking fun at you David! I get it!

bajaguy - 12-13-2017 at 12:38 PM

Tell that to the crew of an SSBN

DK there's tons of happiness! It's just funny in that a ship that was seen 50 years ago has anything to do with a guy needing diesel today.

Nothing more nothing less. Just funny!

acrosstheamericas - 12-13-2017 at 03:56 PM

This morning we took a chance to make it to the intersection Highway 1 coz the gas station gave up saying ‘mañana’. Luckily we got 20lts (30pesos per lt)at the garage place from Chunnu (adviced in Bay of LA). Later we filled up in Pemex happily.

Now propane, gas & home shopping done.

First rule of speaking Spanish vs. Mexicano is, ''manana'' doesn't mean 'tomorrow'.... just means 'not today'. :smug:

thebajarunner - 12-13-2017 at 04:51 PM

Back when I was in the Navy (yeah, I know, all the ships were wooden) we defined a ship as any vessel too large to be loaded upon a ship.

And, great advice on fuel in Baja. Again, way back when.... there was no pavement past Camalu, we always visited a few ranch houses when we ran low and always scored enough to make the next gas stop.

And finally, whew.... sure is hard for some folks to restrain the effort to be funny on a serious post.... and of course fail in that effort, as in "Sorry, not so funny"

chuckie - 12-13-2017 at 06:05 PM

NO, It has to do with trying to put the emphasis on you as the "EXPERT" on everything..Get someone to change your diaper, and stop whining and crying...

motoged - 12-13-2017 at 07:10 PM

Chuckie,
My oh my....you certainly contribute more critical and negative trolling lately....need a prescription review or what.

You make the Goat sound mellow...

Take a few deep breathes and back away from the keyboard next time you get the urge :light:

chuckie - 12-13-2017 at 08:10 PM

Oh Ged! That's so sweet of you to notice! Thank you so much!

chuckie - 12-13-2017 at 09:13 PM

I didn't know they had rules on sulfur content back in 1967? That would be a factor for sure..Would that old diesel be any good after sitting so long? Where would you even get it tested?

chuckie - 12-14-2017 at 03:51 AM

wacoome?

chuckie - 12-14-2017 at 07:57 AM

Havnt you said that before several times? Or am I hearing an echo..???? I get confused, this poor fella is down in LAbay looking for diesel, OK? You tell him that there is a shipboatraftcanoepirogue down there with diesel cuz you saw it. Clearly you wouldn't do that unless it related to his immediate problem, would you? And in your immediate post," diesel fuel today not 1967"SO? What are you trying to tell us? In any event, the Lad has solved his problem, and moved on so none of this (lets see if GED catches this one-hee hee) is GERMAN to this issue anymore....

Seriously? I have to hope you are just playing with me and not that removed.

Diesel fuel today, not 1967.
When you seemed surprised there are 'ships' in L.A. Bay, I only told you I had seen large diesel powered ships as far back 1967.

1967! What was on the radio in your family’s car? Magical mystery tour? Moody blues? Donovan? (picture of your dad’s jeep would be a good addition to this thread, or any old 1967 baja pic would be good addition).

chuckie - 12-14-2017 at 08:20 AM

Vacuum cleaner just had a plugged filter..so yall can quit frettin...

willardguy - 12-14-2017 at 10:55 AM

yes, dk, if the out-of-diesel-guy spots a VESSEL with diesel engine, he can go beg/borrow/steal some diesel from the VESSEL.

For sale in the town (because of a need for ships), not from a ship's tanks. Is it really that hard to grasp the exact words I used originally or is it just a lot of fun to keep twisting the facts to achieve your desired outcome (like some media sources do)?

Is there a fuel dock or fuel barge selling fuel to all those SHIPS you have been seeing? You better find out so you can include info in your guidebook!
