CONGRATULATIONS!! while anyone completing this trip is to be applauded for being a great adventurer, the trip has been made quite a few times in the
past. My friend, Mike, made the same trip from Oxnard a few years back in his aluminum skiff..SOLO. Another 2 guys from Wyoming did the trip from
Reedsport, Wa. to here and back in a rowing dory with a lanteen sail and a kicker way back in 1980. Another 2 characters from North Dakota did a
similar Laguna Ignacio -Cortez trip in a 19' open fisherman with a 60 hp outboard in 1976.
Nevertheless, kudos to the recent panga travelers. I know they will have great memories forever.

but Carlos did this trip many years ago. He has a web site that may be Baja Expo with his stories. I think DK has a link to it.
It is by no means a recent trip, somebody just found out about it recently.
It is a good story.
What I want to see is a circumnavigation by Hummer if those things are really "all that."

Yes Carlos did make the trip, in late 2001 I think. He told us about it at Viva Baja 3. Carlos Fiesta is the host of http://BajaExpo.com where you can read about it ('Baja Circumnavigation') and get great details of most every destination on the peninsula. Carlos
is a good amigo! I think he has his own parking spot at Juan Y Juan's, Scorpion Bay!

i'll call in if i can not be in a meeting, when he landed at mulege nov 2001 we met at Serenidad and i helped him get his prop fixed, dinged it in the
low tide approach to the dock. Carlos also flies to baja now in his 182. the yearly surf trips to juan y juan's are legendary and the 19' fijan panga

What was he thinking??? He never had owned a boat, no sea experience, used a AAA map as his map around the whole peninsula, put his life, business
and family on "the pause button" for a month, went with no back-up crew and took along a pumkin...stuck a wig on it and nicknamed the thing "Elvira".
I don't think he has been in the boat since, but Juan y Juan went in on the panga with him after the trip (bringing it in on the north road from San
Ignancio in the dark) and it now lives at Club Juan y Juan's where people still ask, "What was this guy thinking???" You gotta know Carlos to love
him...he is one of a kind. Find him anywhere on the peninsula and he'll always buy you a cold cerveza or margarita...a true Baja Amigo and true
Nomad...Carlos Fiesta!

I know it seems crazy that I spend 4 weeks circumnavigating Baja and did not fish, but as I progressed through my trip my goals changed. At first the
plan was to just hang out and cruise the coast. After I got into the trip my goal evolved to just staying alive until I got into the Colorado River.
