Headed to BCS mid January, San Jose, Cabo, Todos for a week then drive north to Loreto and maybe Mulege.
Looking for some recommendations for places I can shore fish,I will probably go on a Panga trip also but I enjoy the challenge of fishing from the
beach or rocks.
I am a veteran in Baja so I should be able to find recommended spots.
Happy New year. basautter - 12-31-2017 at 11:58 AM
I recommend checking out "The Baja Catch" by Neil Kelly and Gene Kira. I have never used it for that area, but it has always been a good starting
point for others.TMW - 12-31-2017 at 01:46 PM
I've always had better luck surf fishing on the pacific side than the SOC side. I usually fish north of Guerrero Negro. That said I have caught fish
at San Juanico. The Baja Catch is a good reference book. vacaenbaja - 1-11-2018 at 03:49 PM
I would enthusiastically recommend Bahia Asuncion and the surrounding areas north and south. Check with Shari as to what is biting
that time of the year. I think that with a short panga ride you will find yourself catching some rather large yellowtail if they are still around.chavycha - 1-12-2018 at 02:20 AM

The last several years we've been down in BA, the shore fishing has really died off in January as the cold water moves in and the wind starts.
There will be sierra, pargo, etc. available in the SoC that time of year. I really like to work the rocky reefs as you never know what may come out
of a hole... yumawill - 1-12-2018 at 11:25 AM
Baja Catch is a good history book. I've tried many places listed in the book and they are mostly fished out. When you are camped at what you think is
a remote area and in the morning a family in a Suburban pulls up. Gets out. All twelve of them. Then begins to deploy a Gill net straight out from the
beach. Well it's depressing. Because now you know why your not catching anything. Swim bladder anyone?Udo - 1-12-2018 at 11:32 AM
The beach in front of our house in Bahia Asunciónhas yielded numerous fish from shore fishing, year-round.basautter - 1-13-2018 at 02:05 PM
Gill net fishing sure has taken it's toll in the Gonzaga Bay area. You will always catch dinner, but not at all like it was 10-20 years ago.Russ - 1-13-2018 at 02:34 PM
There are several die hard shore fishermen in Pt. Chivato. They mostly have learned that at first light and last light are the most productive. I
think they are using silver & silver/blue combos of the croks. Getting corvina, and a few pargo. I've also noticed they are sneaking up on the
areas they're fishing. So few fish these days you'll want to take every advantage in your book. Also noticed after the walkers get going in the
morning there is less fish activity. Good Luck and Report in about your adventures. Timo1 - 1-14-2018 at 06:42 AM

I've never eaten corvina before, but I am sure it is good. For a comparison, what other fish is similar to corvina?
WSB/totoava
I guess I need to try some WSB/totoava to figure out what corvina tastes like.

When I am South, I fish the beaches from Migrino to Todos Santos area. I have caught Roosterfish, Toro, Pargo, Sierra, Skip Jack, Lady fish, Northern
Star Gazer (wierd one) and some other assorted fish. Find the bait - find some fish - hopefully. I have never caught a dorado or roballo from the
beach, maybe this year. heading south on Monday. Also fished over on the East side - La Ventana - Punta Arena ares - Cabrilla, Needlefish, Roosterfish
and other assorted fish. I use spectra and top shot of fluorocarbon. Tight lines my friend. Brian
