Tell me about Coyote Cal's

Never been. Thinking about going in a couple weeks.

Short trip, 3 days around there. Couple days to drive down and back.

What are good day rides?

I think it's pretty cool. Meet alot of different people and the food is great too. They have little rooms with bunkbeds. If you bring the lady they have a couple private rooms. Rooms don't have private bathrooms.

Tokens for the shower. Full service bar. Rick a little strange but has always treated me like a friend.

It’s a hostel. Do you like hearing snoring of others in a dorm room of bunk beds?
I actually fall asleep fast, and sleep through earthquakes, so others snoring doesn’t bother me.
I got the impression they wash the sheets between customers, so thumbs up on the hostel scale!

wasn't there a thread last year about a moto that went missing in the night?

Stayed there last June for couple of days. Rick is definitely a little odd, his wife was supper nice. Private room is a great option if you bring a lady. Make sure you let Rick know you will be eating with them early. I saw him turn away 2 guys ,they asked about eating dinner with the group Rick told them they didn't let him know early enough . Oddly enough I heard his wife tell him they had plenty for 2 more, Rick told her he wanted left overs . Other than that great place and I will definitely stay again.

How are the rides around the place? Say 20-30 miles in any direction?

ehall - 1-4-2018 at 04:46 AM

Lots of singletrack if you can find it. Dirt roads in every direction. Beach riding. San Vicente wash. Baja 1000 course usually runs right by it.

soylent_green - 1-4-2018 at 05:02 AM

the 500 and loop 1000 go through there more often than not, so get old route maps for riding ideas

fire road rides to sto tomas or light house north 25 miles each way. easy pizzy stuff but watch for wanna be robby gordons on blind corners

or
south to volcano then san vicente or to johnson ranch about same mileage wise.

off trail single track stuff to explore going north or south

private rooms available - crows nest in top good for couples

schedule for thai style lobster dinner. im not big thai food fan, but really really good. splurge - its like $25-$27 a meal and worth skipping tacos for one meal

great tequila selection in bar

“Glorias” in town decent restaurant and ok burgers and fish tacos at Castros fish camp.

northern baja pacific coast - 90% time the weather will be perfect

—-

as with any place in baja (or US for that matter) - bring locks and make sure your bikes are hard to steal. if that will be your hime base, throw all your locks in truck and bring them with you for piece of mind

-
gas by the gallon only in erendira - if staging there, fill your gas containers beforehand (but not inUS and cross it)

Pretty sure I drove from Pta San Jose down to Erendira, then out a good paved road to Hwy 1 years ago in my VW bus. Road was no problem and a beautiful drive. I think PSJ is where the light tower is, IIRC.
