Pompano Fish Report #2

Sorry about the lack of input on the fishing around Mulege lately. Here I am supposed to be out catching fish and instead I let myself be caught by my wife to finish some old house projects...fishermen's wives just don't get it...those odd jobs have only been waiting for 5 years, what's the rush? Okay, maybe it IS less wet inside after sealing those holes in the roof. And that water heater could have been a little past it's prime...maybe 15 years in the Baja sun accelerated it's demise? I will admit the new paint makes a difference on those walls, too. I really like the new look on the countertops...I thought ALL grout was naturally black/gray. Then there's that new bathroom tile we have been planning for 4-5 years...oh, did I mention a complete re-plumb of the entire house?
There went a few Penn Internationals, a few custom rods..maybe a side trip to Crocodile Bay, Costa Rica.

Anyway, I managed to find her 'undone projects' list and got our lab puppy, Cheyenne, to eat it. Good girl! Fishing time is here again.

To bring you up to date..the yellowtail bite has slowed a little bit by Pta. Chivato and San Marcos, but still remains good. Some nice tails are being taken with live baits down deep...around 220 off Chivato and north of San Marcos. Sea temps are 65-67 surface. Best bite times lately have been 9-11 a.m. Cabrilla and some nice snapper are hitting well along the shoreline south of Pt. Conception towards Pt. Teresa. Unfortunately we have had very windy conditions the last few days and makes for bumpy rides home. Today and tomorrow should be a little better ..but Monday-Wed looks like big whitecaps and swells coming in from the north, so find some shorefun for those days.
I am heading out in a minute or so to try yellowtailing just offshore of Sta. Inez Islands. I will make some bait and try flylining and also down deep. If no action there, I will troll Mirrolures in shallows for reef fish and let you know how I do..with a pic or two.

Now if can just get out of here quietly...shhh..damn, I GOT to get rid of this loud diesel truck! If asked, you never saw me.
