Best way to get from Cabo airport to La Paz

TecateRay - 1-21-2018 at 10:20 PM

Flying down, four of us, for a week in La Paz and need to get from Cabo airport to La Paz and back again. Rental cars seem almost free, but daily insurance runs up huge expense. Any ideas or recommendations?

ecobajatours.com

Picks you up at the terminal and drops you off on the malecon at the main bus station. US$50 round trip.

Rent a car. You can get one with insurance for 4 days or so for less than $150.

Pro tip, rent a jeep so your can drive out into the awesome beaches East of Tecolote and/or do a drive up the coast to San Evaristo. One of the best drives in Baja. They sell fire wood at the little store next to the Pemex at the turn off.

You can probably get a better deal right at the airport, but not sure if you want to risk it.

I checked with several rental companies looks like about $600 for 5 day’s when you include insurance. What rental companies can get the price with insurance down to $300 or so?

I usually use Dominic Los Cabos out of Los Cabos airport. The last time I rented from him was about a year ago, and his terms were $60 per day (U.S. cash) including all insurance. The cars aren't new, but always reliable. Bring them back as close to empty as possible.

A weekly rate is sometimes cheaper than daily. Try these:

Thanks! I sent them a reservation request for a full size (4 adults + bags) . Let’s hope their rates haven’t jumped since you rented.

minor thread hijack:

any rental car recommendations or tips for La Paz?

Check rentalcars.com.

I rented a Jeep for 4 days directly from the Thirfty counter in Cabo a week or so ago. $305 out the door w/insurance. That included a $50 or $75 fee to drop in La Paz.

We did a road trip one day from La Paz to San Evaristo.

Dominic is full up the week I’m traveling.
Cactus has a “full size” for $330 with liability but CDW adds another $90 for the six days.

Cactus is my back-up. :D

Seriously, what you are being quoted is about what I experienced, the only difference being that they didn't spring CDW on me until I was about to pay. Another difference: they take credit cards.

We use Dominic or Cactus too. Also, try mexrentacar.com and fill in your dates and see what it shows. They quote with the mandatory insurance. They are getting good reviews right now in Cabo.

Does mandatory insurance include CDW?
