fishing was not so good today....

Made bait O.K. , then headed for yellowtail holes in 220-260 ft. off Pta. Chivato. There were a dozen boats in the area trying their luck. Dropped a live bigeye with 4 oz. sliding weight to about 10 ft. off bottom. Nothing happening for a long time...I should have brought a book.

I only saw one nice tail taken in the time I was there. Congrats to 'Pez Gordo'.. got his on same rig as mine.

I moved over to Sta. Inez Islands and trolled a Mirrolure through the rocks in 50-60 ft. The Mirrolures run about 24ft deep at max. of 7mph and have a good action if tied directly to line with a loop knot. I finally got one nice cabrilla that was promised to Demos, our fish taco contact in the Mulege square.

It was a fairly calm day with light breeze and small swells. A little bird action here and there, but the yellowtail fishing has slowed down considerably...both here and further south. Manana (Sunday) we are meeting some other boats off Pt. Conception and will try trolling and jigging for snapper, cabrilla, bass, or whatever comes our way. Then a beach picnic on Playa Domingo and maybe a little siesta. Sound good to you?

Of note were these two kayak fishermen off Pta. Chivato having fun catching some goldspotted sand bass.

Pompano---You do any spearfishing? What is the water visibility and temp? fishin rich

I haven't been spearfishing in about 12 years or so...

I am too lazy these days...and the water is too cold...67-69 mostly during winter months. June, July are fine for snorkeling and reaching down for the steamers and chocolates. I guess I'm spoiled and can wait for good warm water. The visibility right now is fairly good and I would think spearfishing would get you some dinner rather quickly.

Years ago I dove all the time and really had some memorable adventures underwater. Jorge, a friend from the old Punto Chivato crew, and I would make a lot of night dives off Santa Inez. That will make the hair rise on your neck for sure. I have a scar on my left eyebrow put there by a moray eel. Another time a sea lion mistook me for a harem competitor when I was bugging some rocks in my black wetsuit. He almost got me. His pressure wave banged me into the rocks twice. Remember when those Mares California air guns first came out? Surprised many a Baja grouper, cabrilla, parrotfish, bass, you name it, I speared it.
Maybe I will again in the next reincarnation.

Good hunting.
