Old Mexican Coin

gringorio - 2-27-2005 at 10:09 AM

Does anyone know old coins? I've had this one for about 20 years. It's a bit beat up, but I am wondering about its history and value. Any ideas? :?:

It says 1839 but I don't know what the other symbols mean???

For you mexican history buffs, what was happening in Baja in 1839??

I think it's worth about 4 dollars. I'll pay a premium and give you five.

tis a nice one. when you find its value let me know what tou want for it. it'll go with my handful of silver 20th century mexican coins. what size is it? dollar, quarternickel? 20 G on the back is probably the weight.

Thanks for the info Jesse! It doesn't seem worth selling. Maybe I'll take it with me on my Sea of Cortez kayak trip and Geo Cache it in some very hard to get to place, like the Sierra la Asamblea, and who ever finds it first can have it!

Its worth at the very least 20 or 30 bucks in my opinion, worth looking into.
