Today's fishing....

We left Coyote Bay early and cleared Pt. Conception near Mulege around dawn, but never saw the 'green flash'...one of these days.

We zig-zagged through pods of porpoise on the way. Lots of fun watching them come up to the boat and eyeballing our lab pup...who eyeballed them right back and wanted to swim with them.

Rendevouzing with 2 other boats we try jigging a 5oz green/gold dart over a barn size pile of rocks down at 210 ft. I had spot on my GPS or I might never have found it again. I made 4 drops and pulled 4 fish immediately...first was a personal pansize red snapper, the second a nice goldspotted bass, the third a very nice red snapper (see photo), and fourth a squid. We certainly had variety! We hung around the rockpile for an hour or so, catching lots of goldspotted for the neighbors. It was a small spot to stay on top of and can only be fished on a calm day.

We trolled over to the mine and tried Mirrolures for any reef fish, no luck there, but we only tried for a couple minutes then headed over to Playa Domingo to have a boat rafting picnic in this scenic little bay. A good day on the water and we have dinner for all 8 of us.

tasty squid...just right size.

on...off...on...off...on...off...on and in the boat. That's squid for you on a regular jig.

I need a 'porpoise' in my life.....
