tobias - 2-8-2018 at 08:40 PM

I am a big fan of El Rey tacos

BajaBlanca - 2-8-2018 at 09:05 PM

I don't remember the name of it but there is one that is upstairs at one end of the malecon...they made a molcahete that was un be lievable.

Lengua - 2-8-2018 at 09:08 PM

I like the guy with the ceviche moped... ...and you cannot beat La Michoacana for ice cream dinner. I think I had six paletas one time.

JZ - 2-8-2018 at 11:56 PM

Best hotel is La Mission. By far.

Super burro for us.
But I think it was called Mi Loreto in the two square area is also fantastic. They had delicious mole enchiladas. We ate there three nights in a row last summer. Also give you a little sope when you get seated.

BajaBlanca - 2-9-2018 at 07:14 AM

del borracho is great too! we just ate there on our way south and service is excellent, food comes quickly and the décor always fun.

mikeymarlin - 2-9-2018 at 08:27 AM

good morning to all---- is SABOR as good as it was a year ago ? and as popular ??

StuckSucks - 2-9-2018 at 09:08 AM

My new favorite is La Picazón (thanks Howard!). The food, people and scenery are off-the-charts.

Blue Lantern, bets mocahete for sure.

What was that place you took me to last year? I thought it was terrific!

Howard - 2-9-2018 at 09:20 AM

Sabor is as good as it ever was

Tacos - El Rey (When their open!)

Breakfast - Islas on the Malecon

Lunch and when entertaining out of town guests - La Picazon

All meals - Orlando's for good and very consistently good food

For Italian - Mezzaluna / Very good for Mexico

Lunch specials (after 1:00) (maybe it's La Fuente)

Ice cream- Michoacán / Next to Orlando's

Now for ncampion's post, he has been reading to many comic books.
It's the Blue Anchor, not the Blue Lantern! Not a bad place to sit and have a beverage as well, the view is the best!

In the last year or so many new restaurants have opened up that are very good and they have actually remained open! Ask around and the locals will point them out to you.

Buen provecho

David K - 2-9-2018 at 09:22 AM

Thank's Howard, that jogged my memory... and without searching my February 2017 trip report! I believe it was Orlando's.

bajabuddha - 2-9-2018 at 09:35 AM

My fave for dinner and great wine list is El Nido. It's near Hotel Santa Fe at the Y when you come into town, south side of the street. Old brick building with wagon wheels out front. Love the frog legs and quail dinner, they'd make me a half-and-half order. Good beef too.

TMW - 2-9-2018 at 10:37 AM

I don't think it is called El Nido anymore but something like Dominos or Domingos.

Orlandos, Still good as ever, our "go to" place.

Lee - 2-9-2018 at 12:19 PM

Messaluna for lasanga and great salads. Orlando's for everything. Islas on the malecon is a favorite for breakfast.

Loretana - 2-9-2018 at 12:31 PM

Mi Loreto
Mita Gourmet
Domingo's Place
Orlando's
El Rey del Taco
Asadero Super Burro
Los Mandiles
Hotel Mision Restaurant
Sabor

Not to mention the off the wall places like the "Gorditas" Lady on Madero....or the kid on the Moto-cart with the tamales who comes by my place every day around 11:30....El Gavilan Seafood Coctel guy at the traffic circle...

We eat very well here in Loreto!

ncampion - 2-9-2018 at 12:35 PM

Howard, thanks for the correction. We have so many good places to eat in Loreto it's sometimes hard to decide. Only problem is trying to eat on Monday. Seems everyone chooses Monday to be closed. Exceptions are: Orlando's, Mezzaluna, now Sabor and a couple others. Then there's always the hot dog carts.

Oh, who can't forget this place... from July 2009:

Orlando's is also closed on Monday.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Pan Que Pan on Hidalgo.
Eddy at PQP makes fresh pastries, muffins, and sourdough loaves and baguettes every morning.
PQP also has good breakfasts and lunches, and the best pizza in town.

Gscott - 2-9-2018 at 04:19 PM

I don't know how I missed the Blue Anchor last time. I walked right by a couple times and didn't see anything moving on that end.

I kind of like El Caloron, which is at the south end of the malecon, next to Augie's. Mostly locals, a cheap lunch (think tacos and beers) and the best of views..

Also enjoyed the Uruguayan place, Mezzaluna, on the corner of Madero and Hidalgo. Sorry they said they were stopping breakfast.

La Palapa is pretty good for dinner. La Mediterraneo on the malecon is good too, but lacks the 'local' feel. Good views.

And absolutely my last choice in town. By far. Why go to mexico and stay in the 5 star hotel or resort?

Coco's would be my first choice. Mission has the best sunrise in town. MX can't have a 5-star? Reads like a put down.

By the way, forgot to mention Cafe Ole for breakfast -- down from the cathedral. Short walk from Coco's.

Your mistake. I like to slum it with the best of them, but it's awesome to go to a really nice hotel with a beautiful view of the ocean, great restaurant, and bar, etc., once in a while.

It's no "resort" and not 5 stars btw. Now if ppl sit around the pool all day instead of venturing out on the ocean and into the desert you'd have a point.

In sum, step up your game.

billklaser - 2-9-2018 at 11:05 PM

Thanks David for remembering Mc' Lulus'. First ate at Luardes in '88' when she was across the street from Pescador, before she moved down the street in your picture. A few years ago she was working part time at Augies, but have lost track of her. Like to mention the Mediterraneo on the Malecon. Also good and a great view. Also, above Mike's Bar is Playa Blanca. This is a location from the past when there were just a few restaurants to choose from.

micah202 - 2-9-2018 at 11:43 PM

Wowwww, nobody mentioned Cafe Ole', at the beginning of the plaza. Had ~8x fish tacos over 10 daze,, why go further when you've found heaven!?

I never considered staying in typical accomodations 'slumming it'. Like Serenidad. Or Hotel Plaza Loreto. Maybe you'd prefer Loreto Bay?
