Congratulations to GRT car # 574 for their 4th place finish. They had a great race and It was a privelage to be able to help these guys. They ran a good race and had only 1 flat and 20 minutes of down time to foam in the gas filter. The motor was leaking oil since RM 105 but we were able to put in enough at each pit not to run dangerously low. I saw baja Lou on Friday and on race day at RM 130. TW, sorry I had to leave so fast the car had passed and we were on our way to RM 196 when I saw you. It was nice to see David K and Elizabeth drop by the house that night. We shared Pacificos and Cazadores.
While waiting for our car we hung out with friends. TT #5 Marty Coyne's sons and pit crew. We were right there when the truck pulled in to do a driver change, change tires and put gas. They ended up getting 4th place after replacing a blown shock early on. We had a really great time and can't wait until April for our first CODE race and possibly the 500. Our quad is getting some great upgrades as we speak and we are excited to try it out. Let's hear some other race stories..Paul

Paul sorry we didn't get together after the race. Bajalou and I chatted for some time after you left RM130. Here are some of my notes on the day.

Thanks to the Checkers and Locos Mocos for the clam bake Friday evening, had a great time.

Friday night camped at RM18. People poured in during the night and by 6:30 am it was a city. Bike 301x crashed somewhere between RM 20 and 34, details shakey but 301x chase was going down course at RM20 when Trophy Trucks were in sight. Things were going pretty good until TT16 arrived. Rear kicked up, truck airborne, nose hit first on right side, truck twisted and rolled a couple of times. Mucho Mexicans put it upright but it couldn't go forward so he backed it off course onto access road. Nobady hurt just egos.

Class one car tried to do the same thing but heavy rear would not go over so it came down hard and blew the tire off the rim on drivers site. Many others tried the airborne route but none as exciting. Lots of spectator help got him going again. Later car 122 came in with no right front spindle. Lots of help jacking up right front and weighting down left rear to put chain on it so he could drive back to town as a DNF.

We later moved to RM130 and then over to RM224. No more excitement except when a Collins chase truck came charging up on the access road to the race course, slowed a little then sped across. Glad no racers were coming. It was a blind section and he's lucky as hell something didn't go wrong.

After dinner we headed north. Around KM150 bad bad wreck. Head on, small Toyota type PU had front end tore off and a car off on each side. Dead body by PU later learned 4 people hurt going in ambulance. At KM 106 another jacked up Toyota PU off on side bent in half. People there said everyone OK. We camped and then the next morning at KM 50 another wreck, car and truck, cops on scene. Appeared no one hurt.

Radar note. While at RM18 the TTs were running 45-48mph on the radar gun. Fast class 1s were running 55-60mph.

Paul emailed me some great photos (of his pit in action) to reduce enough to post here on Nomad... I will get to them later today!

This appears to be at tunaeater's second pit location, north of Arroyo Matomi and west of Coloradito.

115 was running so late at Ch Pt 2 that car 1100 was ahead of it there. Poor 1100 mised finishing the race my about 2 min. Finish line closed because of time - Those boys try the hardest. Stock VW.
