OK, this is an old photo, taken in 1990. But I thought it interesting that Orcas live in the Sea of Cortez since I always associate them with colder
seas. This photo was taken at Punta Chivato. Has anyone else seen orcas the in the Sea of Cortez?

...but that photo is of 'Nessy', the Loch Ness Monster!
You can clearly see Nessy idling through the sea, going from left-to-right.
It's no wonder they can't get any pictures of Nessy over in Scotland...the old girl's moved to the Cortez de Mar!

Are you sure its Nessy? Now I'm thinking it might be that seal I saw at the circus in Los Cabos!

Orcas in the Bay

We had lots of orcas in Coyote Bay and Bay of Conception in 1987 during the langostina die-offs. Costeau's Calypso was here to study the unusual
events...never happened again. I have some great old videos. All our beaches and shorelines were covered with millions of these little red crab-like
critters. Looked a lot like little lobsters...hence the local name. The orcas were eating the fish eating the langostinas. It was a real awesome
sight.

Yes, We've seen them in Bahia de Los Angeles. But it's not common in my experience.
I've seen them at Punta San Francisquito...

....also at the Galapagos Islands (Darwin, the northernmost), the Solomons, and in Papua New Guinea. They are in every ocean.

Up close and personal! In the channel between Isla Carmen and Danzante, a pod was "playing" with a baby dolphin, teaching the young how to hunt ,it
seemed. I was sitting on the transom next to the motors when I look to my right, less than two feet away, was a huge Orca resting its head on the
swim step and staring at me with his huge eye! The pod swam under and around the boat for nearly half an hour. One of the males rubbed his dorsal fin
along the side of the boat, back to front and I reached over and rubbed my hand over it. Never will I forget that experience.

Just had dinner with a local whale watching guide. Orcas were seen this week north of Loreto. Also lots of Blues.

I can't imagine such an experience as you felt with the Orca's so close up...kinda scary, too! What a wonderful experience!
I wonder if your 'swim platform Orca' was a 'free Willi' type - one that had some training, Probably though, they're just real curious creatures and
didn't feel threatened by your boat's presence.
I've seen countless dolphins in the open sea that stayed and played with us for hours - but never Orca's.

Yes, orcas appear off of Punta Bufeo (ergo the name of the point) frequently. A neighbor even had time once last year to come back to the beach and
pick up a couple of other passengers and took them out to a pod. His video of the whole trip is spectacular. Orcas staying and "playing" around his
boat.
Location was about 12 miles off shore, I think. We just saw the video.

Orcas are Dolphins (not Whales) and act like Dolphins (fun loving 'kids") with humans, not so with others of their own kind (prey)
I also though it strange when Sally showed me pictures of Orcas in Baja.
Another strange one......get out your maps and look up Port Orchard (or try Bremerton, Port Orchard might be too small for some maps) and explaine to
me why we have a Gray Whale visiting this far into Puget Sound? (for those
of you geographically challenged, look west of Seattle 
)

Orcas inhabit all seas worldwide. If there is food you will find them.
