Any Mexicali East construction updates? Updated for 04/25 crossing

bkbend - 4-21-2018 at 01:23 PM

Anything changed in the last month? Access to all lanes still from the west? Last update I could find here was almost 4 weeks old, and I got an email report three weeks ago that was too confusing to figure out. Headed north next week and usually approach from the east for the regular lanes so I'm trying to figure out if I get to explore some new roads in Mexicali. Thanks!

Our friends did it earlier this week and came in from the East towing a 5th wheel.

Yeah, the email I got was from someone in an RV and that's why it was confusing. I 'think' the RVs enter near the truck entrance and wind over to the RV lane. I was interested in either the Ready Lane or the regular lane as personal experience and the CBP wait site both show not much difference between the two. Thanks!

OK, here's how it worked on the afternoon of 04/25.

There are three lanes approaching from the west. The two leftmost are for Sentri and Ready lanes. There is a motorcycle officer controlling traffic and allowing those two lanes to enter the crossing. It doesn't matter what lane you are in as both Sentri and Ready initially share the lane and split later. The rightmost lane is for traffic continuing east.

From the west the RV/bus/regular lanes peel off immediately after the truck entrance/exit and run in the dirt parallel to the street. No signage, nothing that looks obvious, there was a police car in the area but the officer was camped in his car and not directing any traffic. Once past this point all westbound traffic must continue west until past the border congestion.

It also looked like, but I can't confirm, all traffic entering Mexico was shoveled out into the westbound lanes. I did a drive-by west and east before selecting my plan of attack but it was too hectic at the intersection to see what all was going where. At the time, I was concentrating on the northbound traffic flow.

I ended up taking the regular line and at about 4pm ended up fourth in line at the gate. Would have been a slick crossing if I hadn't ended up in secondary. The gate guy had no problem with me, he said I was a 'lucky' random pick.

East. Crossing
