Tell us your Sea of Cortez dolphin stories

gringorio - 3-4-2005 at 08:39 PM

These two dolphins came up to us as we sat becalmed on our catamaran in Bahia Concepcion. It was so calm and quiet we could hear their vocalizations.

What have your experiences with dolphins in the Sea of Cortez been like?

I have hundreds of porpoise photos around...these I took 5 days ago near Pt. Conception.

Cortez dolfinos...

We have long been in love with these Cortez creatures. 3 generations of our lab puppies have grown up with them...the labs and the dolfinos equally interested in each other. We have swam and snorkled with them...sailed our catamarans around and over them..and more frequently than not, accompany us when out boating or fishing.

They show us the tuna below them when the warm summer water brings them up from the southern grounds. They jump to 20 foot heights to show us their agility. They are luminous ghosts at night to show us the way home.

I can't imagine life here without them.

I need a 'porpoise' in my life.

Felipa, Cheyenne, and the Pod.

but, when we were out cruising in the Zodiac one day, these two dolphins would swim along side of us for a bit, then race out in front of us and do a perfect twin jump in front of the boat, and totally douse us.
They would then resurface to see how wet they actually got us. They were quite happy with the results and proceeded to follow us around chuckling to themselves in their dolphiny way.
This is probably why my daughter has been in love with Baja since about 6 weeks old.

are SO photo hams
