There is an excellent fish report from a few days ago on Bloody Decks.
Two of my favorite San Quintin captains Jaime and Juan fished BOLA.
A cooler full of fish with a yellowtail and a nice big spotted grouper.
But still slow as I predicted.
June 1 is early but should catch it right.
The exact date is still open but I will pin it down this week. A quicky 3 dayer. In-Fish-out.
I've been flying a lot. And man am I good!

Dang! Gotta be back in Wa for a few days. That's why I picked June 1.
But I will trust you to find fish. Can't wait for the report.

did we have fun? catch lots of fish? i don't even remember the trip, so i must have had lots of fun!fishbuck - 7-19-2018 at 01:27 PM
I am still missing my passport and waiting for a new one.
That's what happened.
But the fishing in BOLA is very good.
I am now planning a San Quintin trip. Probably drive but maybe fly.
San Quintin fishing should bust wide-open after August 1st and should go until the 1st storm in Oct.
Bluefin tuna and Yellowfin are what I think we will see this year.
San Diego Longrangers are already finding them.
The should come enough in to be in panga range.
So I'm stuck on a beach towel in Newport Beach until my passport comes.
Ain't too bad...

Ahem, BFT are 30 miles off Oceanside. Have been for a month. fishbuck - 7-19-2018 at 02:31 PM
I guess I was looking too far south.
What boat out of Oceanside is getting them.
I'm going fishing.
Checking reports now...

How can I swap this over to fishing?fishbuck - 7-20-2018 at 02:42 PM
And it might happen...fishbuck - 7-20-2018 at 02:53 PM
I suppose I should retire this post and start a new "where are the fish" post.
I need the fish to cooperate and swim up here from baja so I can get on a boat that doesn't require a passport.woody with a view - 7-20-2018 at 04:33 PM
If bluefin tuna within 40 miles of San Diego doesn’t get your pecker erect you should probably be chasing tail at Adelitas.caj13 - 7-20-2018 at 05:46 PM
Someone in line at the post office this week said it is only a week now to get them.
48 hours for a renewal. I assume fishy boy has a passport, being the seasoned baja traveler that he is! fishbuck - 7-20-2018 at 06:51 PM
They may be there but nobody is catching them. I checking the reports every 30 seconds or so fishbuck - 7-20-2018 at 07:00 PM

Was there a BOLA trip report?
Tuna fishing offshore San Diego is hit or miss right now, with a few Bluefin being caught (including some giants) but many of the anglers getting
skunked. In recent years the "wide open" conditions have been in August / September on yellow fin. Last year I went out on the Diawa Pacific on a
3/4 day in September and after trolling around all day found a school of them off San Clemente Island and it was a fish a cast for about a half hour,
though they were smaller sized fish in the 20 pound range that is OK, good eating and have not accumulated a lot of mercury.fishbuck - 7-21-2018 at 12:31 PM
It morphed. It's time to fish on the Pacific side.
I couldn't get to BOLA this spring/summer.
Bola fishing is/was good. shari - 7-21-2018 at 12:37 PM
