Whale tail prosthetics are now needed. What a sad situation.

I would love to see the entire peninsula become a protected biosphere.

We had a gray whale with no tail hanging around the mouth of Laguna Ojo de Liebre for a couple months...it had adapted well and swam just fine. They figure that trap entanglements with rope around the tail cut off the circulation and eventually the tail drops off as it is just cartilage.
These flukeless whales have been identified down in baja and then up in Alaska so they do OK....probably slip stream with other migrating whales to help them along.
