I recently received my 10 year USA passport book after my old one was going to expire. I foolishly did not request a card as well.
My question is, has anyone used a card to cross back in a car using another lane other than the normal lanes? In other words is the card good for
going in the Sentri or any other expedited lanes?
If you have used it for an Ready or ? lane, what about your passengers that do not have a card, just a book?
Thanks

You'll need a Sentri card to use Sentri lanes. Passport cards work in the Ready lanes. I'm not sure about the new passport books. Do they have an RFID
chip?

No chip in the book , no can use in the ready lanes.
Have you used a card in the ready lanes? What about your non card holding passengers?
On the average, how much quicker s the ready lane VS the normal lane?

I've used the card in the Ready Lane. When I cross with someone who does not have an approved Ready Lane document, I use the standard lanes, which is
what you're supposed to do.
Ready lanes are usually faster than standard lanes, but not always. At least that's the situation at San Ysidro.

Thanks you for the clear and concise answer.
This is what this forum is supposed to be about, people helping people with Baja/Mexico type questions. To bad quite a few unhappy people don't
realize this.
Thanks again,
Howard

If the book has the camera symbol on it, it is chipped. Doesn't that mean you can use it for the Ready Lane, as well?

if you want to get to the ready lane in tj you MIGHT want to watchthis video from bajabound insurance
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=329&v=UgtNyP...
you'll be taking "the tour" of tj...don't want to miss ONE turn : )

Good video but that route doesn't always work. If border traffic is moderate to heavy you can't make that last merge to the left to get in the ready
lanes (at 4:43 in the video), it will be blocked off by a cop because the wait line extends behind the merge and you would have to cut in the line. To
avoid that problem I make a right at the second traffic circle, this driver made a right at the first traffic circle (at 3:59). Drive past the first
traffic circle and keep going to the second traffic circle and make a sharp right, don't go over the bridge, then another right. You can then merge to
left into the ready lanes further to the east.
Other than that, the video is correct.

If you are driving across into the U.S. and your passenger does not have Sentri you can use your Sentri Card in the Ready Lane as well as your
Passport Card.
